Could the resistol I purchased be a
“herdsman” if not a San Antonio?
“herdsman” if not a San Antonio?
Resistol made a lot of similar thin ribbons under various names (San Antonio, Dallas, etc.). I have found that, unless the name is included in the hat or you can match up block numbers and dimensions with one that does, it's fruitless to try to determine. Sometimes you can come close if you find a pic in an old catalog. You have a very nice hat.Could the resistol I purchased be a

I just came across this DD and man, I like it. Very nice. Here are some photos of my Resistol Panda. I wanted one of these for a long time. I believe this is from 1970-72. I have seen it in the 1972 catalog. Now to find a silver belly!

I'm following you around DD. I just bought a Resistol Plains on ebay today so I was checking yours out. Love it!Here is my "Plains". I'm not sure when the red liner began and ended. I've been told that red liner westerns were from mid fifties to mid sixties. And that the Brown sweat and single ply ribbon was from the late 50s. Black sweats were used with the red liner in the 60s. I have seen some later red liners that don't have gold piping around the tip. I am not sure about this timeline, but it is all I have been able to find out.

Nice hat! My best guess is late 50s. Can you get a pic of the reorder sticker? That would help confirm my guess.Just received this hat in the mail today. Resistol "Plains". Aprox 5.5" Open Crown and a 3" Brim. I don't know how old this would be maybe I can get some help with that. No Byers-Rolnick on the liner. Brown Sweat and Red liner dictate age? Thanks. Sorry, the reorder sticker is gone. I'll get some more photos under the SB on here tomorrow. Isn't much there but we'll see.Nice hat! My best guess is late 50s. Can you get a pic of the reorder sticker? That would help confirm my guess.
Great score! Congratulations Cornshucker! I'd say late fifties, based on the liner, sweat, and skinny ribbon.Just received this hat in the mail today. Resistol "Plains". Barrel racers used to wear those wild colored westerns. A friend once bought a powder blue western hat. I told him I wouldn't be seen with him wearing a girl's hat! [emoji16]Anyone here win this 3X at Goodwill?
It was way too small for me and I was still tempted.
