The Open Road Guild

Go on .... Do it

If the hat in question is the one in your avatar, go on and wear it. The bash you have isn't really "western". It does appear, though, that your brim is a bit "flat". Some time on a brim flange and some staem would fix that. Depending on what outfit you're wearing, you probably won't get a second glance, except in admiration. You go boy!!

Sign me up for the "ORG"

Here is a photo of the two "Open Roads" I own. (the one on the right is a Soverign) The center hat belonged to my Grandfather. It got me started on hat collecting. He was a volunteer fireman in the small town of Jerome, Idaho and often fought fires while wearing his fedora instead of the heavy metal helmets they had. Something one could do in small town USA in the 50's and early 60's. It's definitely my favorite hat and the one that gets the most wear.

Glad to be a member of the Guild!

Cheers,

Church

If it is a 7 3/8 . . . Don't wear it . . .

I bought an Open Road, but I'm a little timid about wearing it in public. It's not exactly a Manhattan hat. I guess until I can get the guts I can't truly claim to be a member of the ORG. I'd like to post a picture of me wearing the hat, but can't seem to figure out how to do that. Until I can figure it out, the avatar will have to suffice. Does anyone else on this forum have trouble breaking through self-consciousness barrier?

Give it to me ;)

Seriously, I have been in Manhatten . . . You could go out naked, and not raise an eyebrow . . . If anything, folks will look at you with envy in their eyes, because you have style, and the panache to carry it off :)

Hey Phil,

I share in your sentiments completely. I have a small, but nice collection of hats (about 15) that serve mostly as decoration in my house. There are two or three that I will actually wear and that is seldom becuase I feel the same way you do. It's hard to put that hat on your head and walk out the door without feeling like everyone is watching you.

However, the hats I do wear out are the "Open Road" models so you picked a good one. I feel they are a great hat for "starting out". Wonderful color and the thin ribbon is a little more casual. It's a great hat that will garner you many compliments. I've only gotten nice remarks when wearing mine.

So, these other members are right about both of us. We need to put them on and wear them more often. I see the photos of guys in the Lounge wearing their hats and I think how cool they look and how I wish I just had the nads to wear my hats like that. Other guys will see you in your hat and think the same thing.

Good Luck and Nice hat!

Again, you don't "upload" the photo, you just link to it. Like this...

You're basically pasting the link into the provided image tags. Your OR looks good!

Phil, that looks like it has always been on your head, looks like a million.
In the early eighties, when I lived up thar', I used to walk around Manhattan in Wranglers, work boots, flannel shirt & down-filled vest. I would hear "looks like a farmer" comments from the cruel urban sophiticates... ^%$%$# 'em, you look great in that.

Wow Phil!

That hat looks great on you! I think in the fashion diverse city of Manhatten one could easily wear anything and be accepted, especially if you look like that.

Enjoy your hat!
