Hey P O D, that Open Road is looking sharp! Although I favor the fedora style you have that O R looking very classic.
This take on your photo looks as if you could be a Texas lawman from 1935.
Once again very well done!

Anyone know what year the OR started to come with the factory blocked cattlemans crease ? Seems like the older ones came open crowned and then Stetson switched to the cattleman.

Hi Folks,

This isn't a great photo of my Open Road, but is it good enough to get me into the Guild?

I've been wearing an OR for about two years. I wear a size 7 3/4, so finding a vintage hat on e-bay proved to be quite difficult. I finally gave up and bought a new one.

By the way, in this photo I'm vainly hunting for a pa'tridge that I was hoping I'd grazed, but who clearly I'd missed. I hate to admit this, but I guess I don't strike much fear into the heart of the average quail.

Post edit: Here's another photo from the same hunt. It shows my Open Road a tad better. Oh, and I'm holding my Browning BSS. She's a fast little 12 guage, 26-inch, side-by-side.

Thanks, Douglas! Where I live cotton is fast regaining it's antebellum crown as health issues push tobacco to the wayside and consumers demand more natural fibers in their clothing. Please believe me when I say that nothing takes one back to an earlier time quite like two hundred acres of cotton on a brisk October afternoon.

This is reminiscent of quail hunting in the fall when I was growing up in VA. We were usually walking through old corn fields though.

Hi Robin,

Yes, when I hunt the common and unassuming dove I normally wear a pair of Levis and a t-shirt. But Mr. Bob is different---he's a gent'man, you see. No doubt he would be offended if one were to come callin' dressed in other than proper attire.

Low Crown OR Pic

I have seen several vintage Low Crown Open Roads on Ebay. All were a little different. Most were teardrop shaped crowns, some telescope some not. Some had a gentle snap in the brim others looked like my open road. Does anyone have pics with what they are pretty sure is the original factory shape???? I want to have one reproduced, but I want to be accurate... I'll get a pic of my OR & see if I can Join you guys
