I have it on good authority that there are plus size dresses, shoes and great hats over at Specialist Auctions that rival what you have all been bidding on over at Ebay. Most sellers there also offer the "have a haggle" which is make an offer. Many of the sellers there have sold or still do sell on Ebay.

:( I'll be happy when Specialist Auctions gets around to filling this void: http://www.specialistauctions.com/categories.php?parent=6244

We're working on it Marc, however, it seems Ebay is the choice of most buyers here. It's hard to ask people to start in a new place when all we can guarantee are no fees to list auctions, have a store and only 3% valuation fee. Oh, and there's the fact that the google base upload is done once a week early on Monday automatically so you don't have to do it yourself. But I digress. :)

Hmm, I'm not even sure if this qualifies, since I didn't bid on it because I knew it would go way beyond my budget. But I was still sad to see it go, I thought it was just precious.

And I was right about the price too, it ended up going for $152.50!

GORGEOUS though! How was it listed (category/keywords?)? I didn't come across it.

If you mean the title it was this:

"LINGERIE PINK~ 50's SEXY SECRETARY Vintage Wiggle Dress"
 lol

And it was in the 1947-early 60's category. I'm not sure if it was during a specific search that I stumbled across it, or a broad one. But I just thought that soft pink, peter pan collar, little bow, and wiggle style all worked together to create such an adorable dress! It's sad how I fall in love with clothes.lol

That's gorgeous! Too bad it went so high!

I always feel like I'm missing out on great things in the 1947-60's category. There's just so much stuff and I never know what to search for!

So sorry Lady Stardust:( It's always hard to lose a dress. It's even harder when that lost dress is Pink[huh] I hope you find one just like it, and that it's 1/4th of what the buyer paid. That'll teach those horrible ebayers to stop driving up the cost of once reasonable dresses!

I lost this beauty tonight, and I must say my tummy was turning at the end of the auction. The winner beat my max bid by $2.50:( Well, the winner got it for that amount more than my max bid was, I don't actually know what her max bid was (whew!). I fell in love with this dress from the moment I saw it. I had been watching it since it first listed. I was hoping to win it so I could wear it to the formal dinner at the next Queen Mary event. It was so different than the other gowns I have, and I loved the colorings, which I thought were perfect for November when the event takes place. Oh well, at least I'm trying to plan in advance, so I"ve got plenty of time to find another, or two:D I have saved a picture of it just in case I find a good enough dress maker to have it copied. If only I had added about $3 more dollars to my maximum, maybe I could have won it:eusa_doh: But, I had already gone way above my max, since towards the last hour of the auction the price steadily rose. I guess I could look at the bright side and be happy that I just saved myself $180:eusa_clap

Daisy:

I almost bid that dress myself but decided that the flaws were too great to warrant the price. My guess is that it looked much better in photos then it would in person. Are you looking for a gown to wear to the Queen Mary event? I have a gorgeous cream-colored Victor Costa halter-style dress with incredible beading in inventory that's flawless. I'm trying to remember, but I believe it is indeed a gown. If you fit it, I'd be glad to lend it to you. I didn't pay a ton for it so even if you spill wine on it, no biggie. PM me if you're interested. I go home this weekend (that's where it is) and can give you more info then.

I still feel pain...

:( This just hurts.

It may be unlady like to say it but...

I hope it doesn't fit whoever outbiddid me!!!!:(

It went for $160 in the end. I just had to give myself a limet and stop before I spent the mortgage money on it.

I was watching that dress too, and was so very sad when the price kept going up. It is so lovely. I hope it went to a good home, to someone who will treasure it for the beautiful piece of history that it is. It really is an amazing vintage dress:(

I had some losses this week too. I was really hoping to get this dress, and the person who won it got it for $1 more than my max bid But, I was good and didn't up my max bid at the last minute. I'm trying to be better about this since I've been buying so much lately.

I lost this lot of 5 shoes, also for just $1 more than my max bid. If only I had just placed a bid for a few dollars more[huh] But who know what the other bidders max was, it could have been a lot higher.

Holy cow Daisy, that lot of shoes you jsut posted gave me a serious case of deja-vu! Those fourth pair of shoes, the ones which have the grey soles, ...I have a pair EXACTLY like them. In fact, those shoes were the first vintage item I ever purchase.:) Ah, the memories! I love those shoes, I have such a surge of confidence whenever I wear them.

I'm sorry for your losses, they're all so gorgeous!:(

ETA: Ooops, I just checked and my black pumps are actually Montlados.

Its just a darling little romper from the 50's. It didnt go for much, but I forgot to check where the biddig was before I went to work, silly me, and thats when the biddling ended. Ah well. I dont really need to buy anything for me right now anyway, but it was so cute!

I so badly hope that these went to one of the ladies here in the lounge. I wanted these so badly! Sadly I was outbid and it just went to rich for my blood. I even emailed the hubby and asked for permission to bid more....he reminded me that they were just shoes and over $80 was a bit much. :eusa_doh: he said I could get 2 or more pairs of shoes for the price of that one pair. Sigh. I'm going to lament over these.
