No hurry. Take your time.
No hurry. Got home had supper.
I will start by saying all 3 hats are soft and smooth to the touch. The 1st (oldest) one the most. The 2nd one a little less, and the 3rd (newest) less still. But had I not felt either of the first two, I would like the feel of the newest one just the same. The oldest one has a thinner feeling felt and is somewhat flimsy, yet still holds its shape. I can squeeze the crown with ease. The sweat is app. 1 15/16ths wide, but thin and soft.
The 2nd hat has a bit thicker felt but not stiff, and I can actually hear the brim “snap”. The crown can be squeezed with ease also. It has the same width sweat and seems about as thick.
The newest hat is the stiffest of them, perhaps like a thin cardboard, but still has flex to it. It takes a bit more effort to squeeze the crown. Yet, as stated earlier, surprisingly soft and smooth to the touch. The sweat is 1 1/2 wide and maybe a bit thicker.
All three are easy on the noggin, in that they are not heavy and form to my head after a few minutes of wearing.
I don’t know what else to say about them, but hope this helps. If you have any other questions or thoughts, please feel free to ask.

Yeah those are some nice looking hats Robie. Thanks for sharing.

I’m going to pass on the 25 I posted an image of earlier in the thread. It’s a 7 1/4 if anyone is interested in the link PM me. But seeing as I’m the new guy amongst the vintage hat buying Guru’s you have probably already seen it!

Thanks buddy. I don't recall if you told your size, but I've noticed there are a few 7's, 7 1/8ths, and I think I saw a 6 7/8ths on the bay.

Man, I just missed out on this very nice looking one on Goodwill. It was sitting at $56 with under a minute left and I put in a max bid of $75. I was the highest bidder till about 5 seconds to go and it went for $76. I guess I didn’t wait long enough, but it’s harder to time than ebay because it doesn’t count down, you have to keep refreshing the page.

Well hopefully it went to a fellow Lounger at least, though I know there’s not many 6-7/8’s around here.

Time to revive the thread with my latest arrival Stetson Twenty Five Open Road

Stetson Twenty Five - The Open Road
Silverbelly
4 3/8 crown as shaped - about 5 1/4 open
3/8 light golden grosgrain ribbon
2 1/2 brim with 1/8 matching binding

I’m really happy with this latest arrival... Stetson Twenty Five Open Road. It has a real nice feel to it... shapes very well and has a nice profile. No paper tag under the sweat... I was thinking early to mid 60s... after some more perusing this thread I’m thinking more mid to late 1950s. Though those estimates have sparked some debate in other forums. If anyone has anymore insight on age. A few small blemishes here and there in the felt nothing significant.. A bit of an abrasion in one small area of the brim binding and the wind trolley has been removed. But all and all I am really happy with this hat. It fits and feels great... I suspect it will get a good amount of wear.

I’ll add some more under the hood details in the next post.

Against my own better judgement I decided to dig a little deeper and fully flip out the sweat. Popped a couple of reeding stitches. But I think it will be OK. Here is what I found

In addition to there being no paper label under the sweat. There is an oilskin sweat liner

The reeding tape is a sort of fabric paper

Both the liner and size tags are sewn in

And upon closer inspection a bit of the reed ferrule is exposed in the rear and is either showing some Verdigris or is a green material
