A couple of wks ago I ran into a friend sitting at a bar who regularly reenacts the part of a Confederate guerrilla from the Civil War, with his long hair & beard. He is a licensed Paramedic & sees plenty of real action in his everyday life. A guy sitting one seat over on my right finally had to interrupt our conversation with his question as to why we would grow long beards & hair in this day & age? I looked over at him, he looked all of 12 yrs old. I looked him directly in his eyes as I answered, "Because we can". That seemed to shut him up as he finished his beer.
ha!

love it

I get photographed from time to time.
I don't really notice but it drives the mister nuts.

I get loads of things but mostly all nice.
I do get a fair bit of Jee haw's.

The cutest thing in the grocery store a couple of weeks back.
This very old lady came up to my and said;
You look just like me when I was young, only you've got better gams.
And your hat, so ladylike.

So I told her thanks and that I had lots to look forward to then.
She giggled and thanked me.
So we wished each other a nice day and walked away.
I tried to pull off the elegant lady walk right in the cookie isle and I could hear her laugh all the way into the other isle.

Cute, and I'm sure it both made her day as well as mine

Cindy, that's Lounger Luvmyman, likened me to a James Bond image. Aw shucks, Moneypenny, how kind.
There's a backhanded compliment that I've had more than once, it's been worded in differing ways but the gist is: "Oh man, look at you. I wish I had the nerve to dress like that."

Ha! He needs educating. A nice pair of wide bottomed trousers, with turned up cuffs of course, a pair of spectator shoes, perhaps one of Tina's shirts and an Esther Weis hat, then he too will be photographed all the time. Tina and I can't go out without someone saying how elegant we look and would we mind if they took a photo. Tell him to strut around with an air of arrogance, like an out of work movie star.

While picking up Christie from the hospital, I had an older guy eyeing me. We got on the same elevator and he commented that he liked my hat and wished more people wore them. I've had a few others make similar comments about wishing they'd come back.

I've also had a fair amount of Sherlock Holmes, Professor Newman, aren't you too old to be a hipster? Type comments. It's all in good fun.

The nicest comment I ever heard.....

Came from a police officer who stopped me for speeding when I was
driving my news truck to cover a hotel fire.
She asked for my driver’s license and told me...

“Look...you’re not with the fire dept. so slow down.
I’m going to let you go with a “warning”, no ticket,
since it’s your birthday today!"

I promised her I would never to do it again.
Which I’ve kept ever since.

BTW:
I almost made a comment about her tight uniform she
was wearing and how nice she looked.
but the smarter half of me told me...

“Don’t be a dummy...just smiled and keep your mouth shut!” :(

As long as you are not a "Fake News" reporter, where the following would be used against you,
why not return to the installation of a "PRESS" card on your hat, secured by the hat band, behind the bow?

Instant Recognition; Instant Notoriety.
(Within a Good Way.)

This thread is the proper place to post the comment I overheard this morning at the senior Rehab hospital where my Mom has spent a few days. I've said it many times before, but the absolute best place to wear a vintage hat is a senior residence, where most of the folks remember and KNOW a decent hat.

As the elevator doors opened, a lady resident in a wheelchair exited, pushed by an aide. When I entered the elevator I heard the lady say "I miss the days when men wore nice fedoras like that one."

The lady obviously recognises someonewho cares about appearance, and given her age and circumstances I will overlook that she didn't refer to you, not as man, but gentleman, which you most certainly are.

Waking up from my first colonoscopy,
having no idea where I was, but upon
opening my eyes, this is what I heard:

"Hi sweetcheeks, how are you feeling?

This comment made me feel great!

Thank you kindly, GHT!
As she was moving away, With her back to me, it was hard to be certain about what else she said, but I swear she said I looked very extinguished, too.

Fixed it. Especially after a colonoscopy.

Took a minute but I got it!
You are funny!

Btw:
"Buns of Steel"
During a summer physical competition between tv stations
in my city to raise
funds for needy folks.
I was "volunteered" to represent my station by my
news director.

She knew I played tennis and was in good physical shape
to win for my station.

The event was at Fiesta Texas with many water activities.
I wore my old polyester trunks.
The
elastic waist band had seen better days.

Towards the end of the competition,
I lifted myself up to
get out of the pool.
My trunk pockets full of water did not come up with me.

I could feel the cool breeze on my cheeks as I used
one hand to pull up my trunks while with the other tried
to hold on to the side of the pool.

The laughter from the crowd was loud, I wanted to disappear.

My station had sent a
cameraman to record the competition
for the 5 o'clock news. He made sure to capture the moment.

Later at the station, the entire news crew was laughing at
the video and poking fun.

My news director took the tape, put it in her pocket as she
went to her office.

She assured me no one would see the embarrassing video again.

Since I had won the competition, she complimented me by saying,

"Way to go .....she paused and added "Mr. Buns of Steel”...
sorry Joey I couldn’t help it.” :D

And I thought by the end of the day it was all 'behind' me.

One of my favourite compliments wasn't about hats, it was about my vintage MG. I'm sure that I have posted it previously, probably in one of the car threads.
During the recent hot summer we were travelling on an urban dual carriageway. The traffic in both lanes was stop/start or crawling along very slowly. I heard this child's voice shout "Mister!" Looking across at the adjacent car, a fabulous, Audi SUV, little Miss ten-year-old, leaning out of the window, treated me to a toothy grin and said: "Your car is so cool." Her Dad's car then drew ahead but I had just enough time to smile back and say thank you. Made my day.

Charlie; I send healing wishes to you mom and best wishes to you and family. You no doubt cut quite a hat wearing figure at the senior residence. I bet your upbeat personality and humor is truly appreciated.

My father has been ill of late and when visiting him I recieve many compliments on my hats by the hospice and palliative patients. I try hard to make time to listen to the stories of their hat days. Smiles abound as they share past memories.

Below is a pic of some family members meeting up to hang out with my Dad.

Eric, thank you very much, and of course, my best wishes for your dad as well!

So, am I correct in my guess that the lady in the violet sweater is your sister?! Good looking bunch!!
