it was a great series, amazing set and prop too, and the opening theme was haunting. I liked it, would there be another season or just a one off?

When a TV production/distribution outlet, like Amazon Prime has become, has a show that gets good press they tend to keep at it just for the prestige even if the money isn't all that good ... it draws attention to their brand. Mad Men was very effective at that for AMC. I suspect Amazon will go forward with another season. Of course if it really doesn't make any money then they'll probably write it off, they are nothing if not focused on the bottom line. I think we can reasonably hope.

Spent some time with my two brothers and my dad tonight (all are WW2 history buffs - what can I say, it's a family thing!) and I really talked up the series. They've been wanting to watch it, but now they really want to watch it.

I loved how the show ends in another reality. The films come from other realities that we have not seen yet. The show spent this whole first season in the reality of the Germans and Japanese wining the war. We know our own reality that the US won the war. What other reality will be reveled next season. Okay, your observation may give me some hope, because the ending sort of left me with the "Huh?" face. I had read the book decades ago, and so my recollection is faulty. I enjoyed watching a deeply realized alternate world, and was sort of discouraged that it might have been "only a dream." You have presented material for further thought...

I think it is a reality that only Tagomi can see. Remember, he went into very deep meditation a couple of times during the season, and I think he went so deep into meditation in the last episode that he transcended his current reality and saw an alternate reality. I don't think it's a dream at all.

I can't wait to see what they do in Season 2!

So far I've only seen the first two episodes. The production design is exceptional, as one would expect with the involvement of Ridley Scott.

And thus far I like the book better. I will have to see more episodes to see if they weave in the subtleties that PKD wove into the book.

You'll like it more the further you go into it ... but we all have to give up on "the book" when considering a movie. The book, any book, uses a great deal of your imagination to work its magic and thus, if w enjoyed it, can not be bested. Movies are like an alternate universe (to keep the metaphor going) of the original story, an improvisation on the same theme, in music you might call them a cover.

If I remember rightly this was a slim book that delivered a lot of ideas. This TV series is a BIG movie that covers fewer but in great depth, not just the plot but the nuances of the characters the art direction, etc. I really underestimated it in the first few episodes, I questioned the casting, the cinematography, the writing the directing. I still have reservations about all that stuff ... in the first few episodes. By the time I got to the end I was ready to give them credit for stuff that may have been small mistakes, like the (not frail) physical performance of the actual "Man in the High Tower", thinking that it might be on purpose and have meaning. It was that good.

I could go on an on about the differences between prose and film and what each can do that the other does not but I'll just say that I love both and they are very different.

I adored what I've been able to see (only about three episodes so far. *sighs*). History, and sci-fi-ish stuff, Gorman again (why is he ALWAYS the villain. *sighs*), and the COSTUMES, and...yeah. I could go on.

However, I love reading books. Hearing that this is based off of one and that others here have read it, I was wondering what it's like? Not in terms of plot or whatnot - but in....appropriateness? Are there any bedroom scenes or the like? Violence and language is fine, but...that, is not. so, is there aught I should be forewarned of before reading it? Or trying to find it?

As of now, neither. It's produced by Amazon Studios and on Amazon Prime - although should it be moved to Netflix it would be lovely as then I could reccommend it perhaps to others.....

It appears as though Amazon is not available thru my cable provider here in Canada. I found a first season set on Ebay for not much money so will go that route.

It's an online service a la Netflix, not a broadcast channel, so you won't find it on cable tv.
