The general decline in standards today

Yeah, gettin' older ain't exactly all fun and games, is it? It's mostly good, but it's hard to sync the brain - which thinks it's 25 - with the body, that's not.

My life gets better every year. I have aches and pains and I need glasses but it was the same in my 20s.

When I read that article, my thinking was more along the lines of the decline in standards of mainstream media using sexually explicit terminology, as well as making it seem commonplace. All it is is one Brooklyn neighborhood. Sensationalism.

The media has not declined. It has been straight down hill since the 1960s. There is a reason why only 23% of the people trust anything they say.

Yes, there has been a decline. Vulgarities, spelled out in full and pictured, are the norm. That wasn't true in the 60s.

When I was 15, I was being a wise@$$ and asked a scout leader of my troop how it was to be old(he was 35 at the time). His answer has stayed with me until today.
"You know those aches and pains you attribute to growing pains?"

Yeah... after a few rounds you forget your marriage that is going on 2 decades? And your screaming kids at home? That you gave birth to after a really painful labor? Really?

Those must be some darn strong cocktails that get you that drunk. They must boil the liquor down or something.

I'm not sure what I find most disgusting about that article. I've got a news flash for the women in that article: if you're out systematically and frequently cheating on your partner and you think they're innocently sitting at home night after night not suspecting a thing, perhaps you ought to think that if you do it, they can do it too. After all you're not around enough to know what they're doing or to even care.
You should never take anyone you love for granted like that. It's disgusting.

These days I find that going out is saved for occassions not a weekly thing. I don't deal with crowds as well as when I was young and as for rock I shy away from the screaming or the lead singer is trying to sound like a deep voiced demon creepy crap. If it is a jump band it can be raucus. I don't do the 5am stuff often either.

I recently went out with work colleagues as one is leaving to go overseas. I hated every minute of it. And it wasn't just me. One of the girls whose 22 said she is way over the whole scene. The club/pub was dark, noisy, overcrowded. There was nowhere to sit and you couldn't hear each other speak over the noise. Its was so antisocial, older women were dressed like 20 yr olds. I guess i looked a tad out of place in my victory rolls, 40's dress and velvet swing coat. I long for past when one was able to go out and enjoy other peoples company. To be able to dance with your partner. I'm quite envious of my parents and grandparents. I wish I Could have experienced those days.

I have zero interest in sitting in a pub half the night (which is what you end up doing a lot here when you are in your twenties) trying to grab a seat, being jostled and having to shout at whoever you are with as the music/noise is too loud or going to a nightclub (the mere thought of that sends shivers down my spine!) and having to deal with drunks - I much prefer sitting in with my husband after we have put our little girl to bed, cooking dinner, cracking open a bottle of nice wine and then chilling out watching a DVD.

When I was young I worked in radio -- a job which required me to get up at 3 AM six days a week, so I had to be in bed by 8 PM. Now, I work nights, and when I'm finished all I want to do is eat my bowl of All-Bran and go to sleep. These people who party hearty all night long -- do they have jobs? Do they *function* in their jobs? Or do they just not care about their jobs?

Media does a great disservice to readers with articles like this. They take what is a minority or abnormality in a given group and report it as "the newest thing". Readers who tend to trust anything they read online, "if they reported it it has to be true.." react accordingly.
Most reporting strikes me as nothing more than manipulative guerilla marketing.
It reminds me of they marketing hype they created for the latest bit of "mommy porn" 50 Shades of Grey. I was reading In trade journals how this book was "the hottest thing in the US" as the book hit the shelves. Marketing b.s.

Yup. Note that the original article referenced in the CNN article was by some woman who's got a novel coming out this fall. It isn't too hard to guess what it'll be about.
