The finished and shaped hat, all with just steam and my hands:
Nice work Brent! Did you stamp the "Hand Creased" in the sweatband when you were done?

The felt on this hat is shockingly good. The 4 horseshoe rating doesn’t sound impressive, but it’s as nice as some of the pure beaver felt I’ve handled…and even better than some.

You might want to check with Nick F***it first just to make sure he hasn't beaten you to the punch. You know I did! Hey, that might catch on…maybe I should copyright it?
Great job, Brent. That turned out to be a honey of a hat.

But seriously, nice hat and nice shape!
Ohhh Lordy that is spectacular! I’m thinking possibly 40s. Manufacturing tag might tell the tale. Be careful with that sweat though. Congratulations SimeonI just received my first Dobbs, a 50s Gay Prince in dark blue velour. I'm guessing it's 1950s anyways based on the liner design and the oilskin liner tip protector. Its a pretty standard 2 3/4" brim and has a 4 1/2" crown as bashed, the brim and hat band stitching are in great shape. It shows some light mothing in a few spots and the sweat band is a little wrinkly, but is still nice and soft.

Thanks Joe, I gently pealed back the sweat a little and found the tag. Based on the hatted professor's page it appears to be pretty solidly 50s.Ohhh Lordy that is spectacular! I’m thinking possibly 40s. Manufacturing tag might tell the tale. Be careful with that sweat though. Congratulations Simeon

Thank you gents! I didn't have a dobbs or a blue hat yet so was excited to cross two items off the list.Great hat in a great color! Good get.
Joe, I was looking back over some other posts about the GPs and was wondering is there a connection between crown height and age? It seems like later hats had a 5 1/2" crown but I think you had one that was 5 3/4" like this one. Maybe it could be late 40s?Ohhh Lordy that is spectacular! I’m thinking possibly 40s. I’m not sure on the crown height/age thing. But could make sense. I also have GP I had estimated 1950s… looking at my notes on that I had the open crown height between 5 1/2 and 5 3/4….Joe, I was looking back over some other posts about the GPs and was wondering is there a connection between crown height and age? Still not a perfect picture but you can see the labels on this one.I’m not sure on the crown height/age thing. But could make sense. I also have GP I had estimated 1950s… looking at my notes on that I had the open crown height between 5 1/2 and 5 3/4….
This is the tag on my ”40s” GP

i cant see the bottom of your tag…. It may be earlier in the “50s uniform manufacturing tag” run. Remember also. It’s not like EXACTLY Jan 1, 1950 they started with the new tags.. there can be some leeway on either side
He's just another putz who has no respect for anything that existed before him, especially if he can somehow make a few bucks by applying his particular brand of stupid to it....I’m waiting for his 15 minutes to be over. I don’t care about his custom builds but I’m tired of seeing nice vintage hats being vandalized in the name of creating some bohemian artwork.
