The Dobbs Diner...

German market Dobbs Cross Country. Strange that they kept the Cross Country name as it’s nothing at all like the hat sold in the US. 2 1/4” raw edge brim and a low crown and an intermediate width ribbon. I originally thought it was an altered hat, but it seems to be original.

Cool looking hat, Brent. What makes this for the German market though, because there are no indications on the hat as far as I can tell?

And now a Dobbs made under license in Germany. This is the Twenty-Five and the felt is very nice for the era. It has 2 1/4” wide brim with an overwelt. The whole hat is nicely done in a modest sort of way, and I’m always a sucker for gills. The size is 58cm or 7 1/4 US.

It was from the same seller and he/she said they were both from Germany. I agree that there isn’t any indication on the hat this was made for that market and I’ve edited my post.

The A. Breiter name definitely puts the seal of approval on that one, Brent. Nice find.

Very similar to my CC, also.

One of the nicest vintage hats I received in a long time. Light gray felt with wide brim binding. The felt is super thin and definitely of the “blow a crease into it” variety. The brim with a 2 ¼” wide and the open crown is 5 ½” tall. The condition is glorious! The only has the owners initials so I suspect it’s an replacement, but it’s not a recent replacement. It’s a size 7 US…and that’s the only negative I could find. I believe this to be a 1930s hat.

Another recent arrival. Great proportions and a size 7 ½ or 60cm to boot! 5 ¾” open crown and 2 ¾” brim with wide binding. The felt is more substantial than the last Dobbs, but it’s also easily creased dry. This felt, however, will hold its shape with normal use. I believe this to be a 1940s hat.

7 3/8 Dobbs. Perhaps my favorite colors to date. A great blue felt and a lightly contrasting lilac ribbon. The 2 ¾” wide brim has biding that is wider on the top than the bottom so perhaps a camber style hat, but it also works great as a snap brim. Sadly, there is moth damage. It’s in the freezer for the next few days, but it needs a home so send me a PM if you’re interested.

A 1950's Dobbs Forty I just won in eBay auction. Raw brim is 2 3/4 inches. The felt feels entirely different from a 1950's Dobbs Forty dress fedora I bought from Brent a few months ago. This Western Dobbs felt feels more like what you'd expect in a cowboy hat, but a high-end hat. Hat has same liner as hat from Brent. I didn't like the Cattleman's crease, etc that was original to hat, so I've tentatively reshaped it but haven't steamed in the new shape yet. 2nd photo is original creasing.
