The Dobbs Diner...

Dobbs VVL Twenty. This hat is truly Very Very Light. When the crown was open I could change the shape of the felt by blowing on it. Unfortunately, there is some significant moth damage too. I knew about the mothing, and it’s two sizes too small for me, but I just needed to feel this felt. If it was my size I’d think about having a go at repairing the moth damage.

With time and experience wearing vintage felt, it is hard to wear much else. I have an old beater 3X in about the same condition. It feels great and looks right at home whether I'm fishing or running a chain saw!

I found this as part of a current auction for a Dobbs Forty and thought it was interesting. $276 per dozen means they weren’t quite doubling their money ($23 per hat).

It is interesting to see the Flange blocks used on these hats. Often we know the crown, rarely the flange....

I must say I love that furry western!!!!!!

You have been snagging some nice hats lately....and we though you were cutting back:eek::rolleyes:......

Welcome back to the ranks of us sick hoarders of hats!!!!!!!!!!;););):):):):D:D:D:p:p:p

I’m doing...alright. I’ve sold five for every new one I’ve kept. Sometimes a hat comes along that you just can’t pass up. I need to sell several more when I can find the time.

Dobbs Cross Country

Dobbs Cross Country
5 3/8 Open Crown
2 3/4 ultra thin raw edge brim
1 inch Grosgrain mid ribbon

A very neat new arrival. This one came off a tip from @TheOldFashioned.

The Dobbs Cross Country a very thin light weight unlined hat.

This one had a cool back story. It had belonged to a woman who in the 1930s rode in dressage competitions against the men and won! She was a very proud tiny woman who loved to speak of the memories of her great adventures until her passing. This was how she kept the hat shaped and along with a chin strap she had made to use it for riding

I opened up the crown and reshaped it a bit into more of a fedora shape. There of course is a bit of memory from the pork pie shape she had it.. but it did shape fairly well. I’m sure some steam would help.

And now for the bad news... unfortunately while I was looking under the sweat for the manufacturing tag.... the back half of the sweat popped its stitching. While the sweat was very soft and malleable.. This potentially 80 year old sweat is Almost paper thin and tore at the stitches like a zipper. The back side of the sweat was powdery. So I guess this one will need a new sweat at some point.
