Very nice!

A fortuitous find this past weekend, a 1940s Dobbs Twenty:
View attachment 193824 View attachment 193825 View attachment 193826 View attachment 193827
Specs:
2-3/4" Brim
5-1/2" Crown (open, though I measured closer to 5-3/4")
3/8" Ribbon (a little shy)
1/8" Binding (symmetric)
4.0oz Weight
Based on looking through this thread it looks to possibly be the Westward model, though it's not indicated as such on the hat itself. Wonderful, thin felt that takes a dry crease easily. Quickly threw in both a cattleman and a teardrop with little effort. If this hat was creased before there is no memory, so it's like working with a blank slate.

Too big for my head at 7-1/2, so this will likely end up in the Classifieds soon. Stay tuned!

That’s a fine looking Gay Prince. I recently got ahold of a Resistol that could pass as it’s identical twin. I love the look of this style, and would like to have more than just one for myself.

Having had only seen them in photos previously.. I wasn’t sure what to make of them with the felt hat band and the saddle stitching trim could easily go to far in looking like “playing cowboy”. But the stitching is actually somewhat subtle.... and give the hat an elegant look. When I replaced the stitching I tested about an inch or two double threaded as it is on the original. However with the thicker thread I was using it came off a bit overstated... it still looked nice.., but it was just too much so I went with the single thread.

The thing that really amazed me about these though was how thin and light the felt is. Maybe from seeing photos I had expected a stiffer ‘cowboy hat’ like felt. A pleasant surprise for sure.

Best,
Joe

Here's my newest addition. A Dobbs Twenty. Beautiful condition. 7 1/8 but just a little tight on my noggin. I can wear it but its snug. I must need to get my hair cut.

2 1/2" brim, 4 5/8" crown, the ribbon looks to be about 5/8". Its a nice lid.

Very nice Dobbs! The brim looks to be bigger than 2 1/2” to me...it looks to be just about perfect!

I recently acquired this Dobbs Fifteen Game Bird. I am unsure about dating this one. The paper label looks to me to be 50s but the sweatband in unlike any I'ver personally seen. It has a texture embossed and is gray in color. It has a narrow brim of 2" and as you can see is a two tone of gray heather and black heather. The ribbon is 1 7/8" brown. The label shows the depth to be 4 1/8" but the crown is 5 1/4" open.

The felt is dense and wonderful. It’s very easy to dry shape, but dense enough to easily hold the shape. A very nice hat, but the brim is a bit narrower than I prefer so I probably won’t keep it.

This is my latest acquisition. It's a Dobbs Twenty circa 50s (I think). Brim is 2 7/8", ribbon 1 5/8", crown 5 5/8". Color is Pecan. Am I right about 50s?

Likely. I don't think I've seen that first tag before. Did you check the Professor's site?

If I recall correctly, the gold embossed Dobbs logo first appeared right around 1950, replacing a plain, uninked debossment. With those dimensions, I wouldn't think it was much newer than that.
Nice score!
