Congratulations Ugarte! :D And enjoy your lovely hat! :)

Thank you deelovely. I had the hat out and about today. It drew much positive attention.

Of course, my 17 y.o. daughter and 11 y.o. son are still using words like "ugly," "disgusting," and "I won't be seen in public with you in that thing."

Where did I go wrong?

Mark :)

You are gonna love it! I put a diamond in my Campdraft, not as pronounced as my TVA or your newest, but the Campdraft takes the diamond well. You may want to try it on yours.
Also we are awaiting the photos!:eusa_clap :D

I bet you immediately changed out the thin ribbon for a fat one too!! lol
lol no!!!! The Campdraft is a hat unto itself, it has a higher crown than any of the Open Roads I have owned [4] I own none now as they just dont match the Campdraft in looks [I think]. Notice I said looks, the felt on the CD is fine, but it did not match the vintage felt of the ORs. I just like the higher crown.

I had never heard of a diamond bash until seeing a couple mentions of it in this forum. Then last night I was watching The Thin Man Goes Home from 1944 and saw several hats with that style of bash. It must have had a period of popularity.

I don't know whether it was genuine taper, or the effect of wearing my Fieldmaster (with its decidely fleshy crown), but my Federation Deluxe has looked a little flaccid the last couple of times I've worn it. I consdered trying to reshape it with my HatShaper, but for now, I decided to mess about and see how the hat looked with a diamond (not-bogart suggested this as a remedy to a tapering hat, months ago on another forum):

I'm actually quite pleased with the results.

Because I am short, the loss of crown height is actually not all that important, and I like the squared shape. I also really like the straighter sides the hat now has.

I may well consider a similar bash in my next Federation...

...Ah who am I kidding of course I'll just shove a centre dent in it. But it's nice to know that once one of them tapers, a diamond can give it a new lease of life for a while.

Fatwoul, aren't you at least worried about having the front of your hat almost folded to the point of having a corner at the crown?

I can't help but think that's not any helpful for the longevity of the felt.
