Thanks Manfred. Here's another Homburg conversion,Semi finished, haven't decided on crown ribbon yet but I like the deep grey one on presently against the jet black of the felt. Pics aren't best as black hats are tough to photograph .

An "uptown" hat built on a Western-weight body.

Western weights are considerably thicker and stiffer than dress weights, which is all to the better with a style such as this, which, to maintain its shape over time, really has to be quite rigid, a la old-timey bowlers.

Thanks, bond. This thing was a real bear to make (man, those Western weights from our friends in Tennessee are stiff), not just to block, but also to coax the brim into shape and to get a needle through.

I'm intrigued by this binding method of yours, by the way.

Yes, patience indeed. And practice.

I've seen several methods produce good results. And I've seen some produce less than satisfactory results as well. Often it's not the method at fault so much as the execution. The technique I've settled on (for now) works well, but that's only after gaining a lot of experience in how not to do it.

Practice, practice, practice.
