You can thank Parker Melvin for the restoration. Everything they say about him being darn slow but damned well worth it is spot on. As I mentioned, it was so dirty that I had to "brush" it with an old tooth brush to get it clean enough to see the color. It was a 3" raw brim western taken down to 2 1/2.

Good job D man. I give you credit for wrangling those 4xs.
Here is my first ever Wormser hburg that I just converted. Felt is very mice quality and has a nice hand to it the brim is very pliable. For got to take a before pic so here's the finished pic only added brim binding and rebashed crown. Everything else is original. Color of brim binding is exactly same color that was originally on

Manfred you are king of the Strawburgs!
Here are some pics of my recently acquired Art Fawcett hat that I took for a walk to local river and christened it with river sand wash to give it some character as it was painfully too shiny new for my tastes. After all a beaver lives in river muck no?

I recently received the Resistol beaver 100 that I had sent to Falcon Park to be converted to a "civilian" hat. It was a nine dollar purchase that was so dirty I thought it was brown. the sweat band was gone but the felt was just amazing. I have since spoken with some of the original owners family and was told that it was owned by a construction company owner and was presented to his by employees as a gift in the early fifties and was worn by him daily till he died thirty years later. They wondered where the hat went, I felt a little bad for having it but I was assured that it was ok.

Looks so fine....custom made look to it!

LoveMyHats2 and Bond, you are too kind, thank you very much, gentlemen for the kind words about the Strawburg. I really appreciate them!

Nice hat, Bond. Looks as was the river sand not bad for him!

Richard, that is not so difficult as it looks! I removed the straw sweatband along the seam.
Then I cut the felt along the leather sweatband, so I have a fur stripe where I can sew the straw body over the felt flange. The straw body should be a little bit larger as the fur body!
Thats all!
Look here! my first conversion with a beaver felt black and a cuenca!

better photos![/QUOTE]

I believe I may be too new here at the forum to post pics, however, I just did my first conversion on a beat up Resistol Stockman. I removed 5/8" off the brim using a compass and an exacto knife. Sanded edge with 320 grit sandpaper, then, steaming, brushing, blocking, and a little bit of cursing. Added a 1-1/2" grosgrain ribbon and voila, a very serviceable fedora that should stand up to the rigors of my everyday life.
