Does this look like a good conversion candidate?

Its the color I'm looking for...I would trim the brim to 2 1/2" and put a 1 3/4" or so black ribbon and bow on it.

Looks good to me. What is current brim length? What is the quality of felt? Being at thin ribbon guy, that existing band looks good to me.

I'm waiting to hear about the felt. Brim is ~3".
I agree the thin ribbon does look good- would this be considered an 'Open Road Clone'? I do like those, but I'm wanting a 'classic' style grosgrain ribbon-ed fedora. I can't seem to catch a deal on a 7 1/8 vintage, and the Fed 4 is backordered until April...so I'm looking at other options.

Looks like an OR clone from here. If the bow was visible, that would help.

My latest butchering of a cowboy hat!

I recently found a Stetson Tyler at a flea market for 3 dollars and decided it would make a good hat to practice on since it was my size. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I did anything, but the first picture in this post looks just like it except for the color. I cut the brim down to 2 3/4 inches and reshaped the crown and brim using a spray bottle with cold water and let it dry overnight.

I'm not to adept with a needle and thread so my wife sowed the bow and band on for me. I realize the 3 vent holes on the side may not be the perfect look for a fedora, but I think it will make an okay field hat for work. I like it much better than the original. The last picture is my reinvented Stetson Tyler Fedora on my noggin.

I know it's not perfect but I am tickled pink and now I know I can shape my new mid brown Akubra Campdraft when it gets here.

Resistol 3X western conversion

I failed to take before pictures of the hat. It originally had a 4 in. brim. I cut the brim to 2 3/4 inches. I may keep it a little bit western with a braided black leather band.

Thanks Carter. I like the thin ribbon, but 30 years ago I cut the bow short. Where could I get new ribbon to replace the old? As the hat is now, It reminds me of an old Hank Williams photograph.

Ok guys and gals, I know they are out there, let's see your western conversions. Here are my three

L to R a Shudde Bros. custom, a Resistol 5X, a Resistol 4X. Sorry, no before pics of the light colored hats. The Shudde Bros. I've posted before, Kahki with a forrest green ribbon;

And after. I had to shrink this one about 3/4 of a size. It took some doing but I'm happy with the result. Black on black;
