I thought I'd found just about every place on the web that carried the Stylemaster until I saw this one. I noticed that they've got the Stylemaster, which is listed as "Imperial" quality, and another one listed as "Superfine." The Superfine is slightly less expensive than the Imperial, and comes in fewer colors. Anybody know the difference?

Only if those places have the Bluegrass Green in stock - Hats Direct just got word that the Bluegrass Green (and black) Campdrafts have been discontinued and can no longer be ordered from Akubra.

That will be the problem...Hopefully one of these many stores will have one in my size....[huh] :D

Hey Spats...I think one of the differences is that it doesn't come with a liner...
Maybe that's it. I know that Sam from Everything Australian emailed me that the Stylemaster that they carry comes with a satin liner.

Way to go, CJ! That lid looks great. :eusa_clap Akubras seem to suit you well!

IC -- another nice Campdraft! Ditto, Boxerken.

GWD -- those Strats are beautiful.

Here is a web photo of a bluegrass green Akubra:

I have actually tried on a bluegrass green Campdraft, and this photo does a pretty good job of capturing the color. Much as I love green lids, I wasn't a big fan of the bluegrass green shade. But, that's a very subjective call. It certainly makes for a distinctive looking thin ribbon.

Cheers,
JtL

To be honest, it's really hard to offer any kind of opinion on this that isn't pretty darn subjective. It's been a while since I saw the Bluegrass Green Campdraft. I think my sense was that, from a clothing perspective, the Bluegrass Green might not blend as easily with a number of colors. That being said, in terms of an outdoor lid, worn with a jacket (or more neutral colors) I think it would work just fine. And, let's face it, there just aren't that many green thin-ribbons out there, so it's a pretty unique look.

As far as the color on my Borso goes -- when I sent it over to Optimo for a cleaning, Graham told me that he would be offering a felt this fall in a virtually identical color. Of course, that's going to cost a few bucks more than an Akubra...;)

Cheers,
JtL

Thanks for that info Jimmy...I have a green Disney that really works with a lot of things...so a bluegrass should work well also...I wear a lot of khaki...earth tones etc...so it should work well if I can find one...:D

I just won this on Ebay. I neglected to get my Dobbs Gay Prince to Optimo all summer to be refurbished, so now I need a good beater to tide me over till that's done. So I saw this and jumped on it. Can anyone tell me anything about the brand? It looks like a cheap but decent wool version of a Stratoliner, which I've been sort of wanting anyway.
Question: my head size is somewhere right in between 6 7/8 and 7. Some 7's I have to stick material inside the band to make them fit. But some 6 7/8 are a little snug. What would be the best way to get this a little stretched, short of going the whole route of a hat stretcher? Would just wetting it and jamming it down on my head do the job? Or would it just cut off the circulation to my brain?

I think the comment about it being "early 1900's" is pretty funny. Obviously anything before about 1980 is lost in the murky past to some people.

dhermann1, I think you did great. Sharp looking fedora, if it is not to tight... you may find that just wearing it will get it up to your size.
I have found wool will give a little in that regard.
Be sure to show up a few photos when it gets home.
