The Bowler or Derby Hat

Super find, Steve.

Flensburg is right on the border between Denmark and Germany. It used to be a part of Denmark and therefore a Danish town, but after the 1864 war between the two countries, it became a part of Germany.

In 1922, it almost became a part of Denmark again, but the citizens of the area Flensburg lies in voted for it to remain in Germany.

Wish I had more on the establishment your Bowler was sold in.
Steve, Thanks you! I think I have another hat from a Flensburg shop. I have never been to Flensburg so need to visit there one day.

Rehfus & Cie. Kehl - Rhein "Zephyr", possibly 1930s. I was looking through photos that I took at the the Gotisches Haus (Gothic House) Hat Museum, Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, Germany back in 2016 and I noticed the paper label of this Stiff Felt was from Rehfus and Cie. Khel - Rhein.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Flexible", FP 6, 157 grams, possibly later 1920s early 1930s. The Form has less taper so straighter sides. This Stiff Felt was made for Czech market. Post WWI JHS Stiff Felt Paper Label Type 1a.

Another nice find, Steve.

I love these Hückel Flexible stiff felts. I'm lucky to have a couple. Sadly, one is too small.

Very nice, Steve! When I startet buying hats some years ago I used to think of the shape and - later - of the felt for the 'goodness' of a hat - in the case of your JHS of course ecxellent! But today it's the small details like the hole pattern in the sweat that make me just as happy, too!

Matt, Thank you! Yes, I also like the hole pattern on the lower edge of the Sweatband. I think it might have had a Sweatband bow but I haven't done a close inspection. Here is one that it is in fantastic condition.

"Deutsches Fabrikat", 58 cm, 119 grams, possibly 1930s. No company labels so most likely sourced by the shop Emil Fischer Dortmund (see Case below). The Black Fur Felt has a unique Chamois Finish with a very soft Hand. The condition is near NOS condition which along with the Finish attracted me to this Stiff Felt.

A truly nice find, Steve. I can almost feel that chamois finish. Simple but wonderful case, too.

Congrats on that one.
