J. Hückel´s Söhne "Elastic", 57.5 cm, 118 grams. possibly mid 1920s to early 1930s. This is a Ladies Stiff Felt Riding Hat but since it's a JHS + very unique I decided to pick it up. It appears to be entirely original and in NOS condition. The Black smooth finished Felt is the same as a Men's JHS "Elastic" Stiff Felt. The 4.5 cm Brim is not curled and has downward flange with a thin Binding. The Grosgrain Sweatband with padded which is stitched in with a X pattern. The Bow is on the left side like Men's Hats. There is also has a long fabric Strap which you see on some Ladies Hats. I couldn't find a paper label so maybe this was custom made by JHS. Definitely a very unique piece for my museum. :)

If it wasn't for the strap, I'd be tempted to wear it. Great find, Steve.

Steve, Without the Strap nobody would know it's a Ladies Hat. Probably most wouldn't know with the Strap. Also the Bow is on the Left side so the same as Men's Hats. I will take some photos wearing it with the Strap tucked under the Crown. :)

I found a photo of a similar looking (no Brim Curl and downward Flange) Knox Riding Hat but without Strap. I can't tell if it has a Bow on the left side.

Wonderful photo, Steve.

I thought the same about tucking the strap under the crown. Looking forward to seeing the photos of you in it. However, I don't think you'll look as beautiful as Olga Petrova :)

A very unique hat, Steve. I have a bowler I believe is from the U.K. with a D'Orsay curl but with a similar very thin brim/side curls.

Randy, Thank you! Do you think it's a Ladies Stiff Felt Hat? Would be interested in seeing photos.
I'll post pics in a few days (I'm away from the house) but it has very traditional dimensions, bow on the left, 1 inch ribbon, so it seems to be a men's configuration. The brim is rather flat compared to my other bowlers (I've been meaning to steam it and lift the sides) and it is unlined and very light weight....almost like a "summer" hat.

Another lucky Facebook Market Place find.

Battersby, one of my favourite Manchester hat makers.

Originally sold in Denmark's 5th largest town just before or just after WWII, I'd say.

Almost perfect in every way apart from the popped sweatband stitching at the front.

The best news though is, it fits

You look a bit doubtful in the photo, Steve, but I'd say that's a winner!
