Perhaps the reference was to this ancient western hat from a store in Cheyenne, WY? It came out great!
Alan, that's indeed the one I used as a reference. Wide ribbon, very low keeper of the sharply upwards pointed bow ends. Great look. Might very well be Black Sheep used the same one as inspiration for the Imperial (picture below).Perhaps the reference was to this ancient western hat from a store in Cheyenne, WY? It came out great!

Your hat collection is an inspiration for us all. Hope there aren't any royalties involvedYes, I believe it was.
U. F.= Utterly Fantastic.Gärner Hüte Wien "Record" Manufactured by J. Heinr. Ita Wien, 59cm, Real Fur Felt probably 1930s or 1940s. I assume Gärner Hüte Wien is the same as Gärner Wien who also made their own hats. I have an earlier Gärner Wien Wool Stiff Felt. The paper label has a "U.F." which doesn't point to J. Heinr. Ita Wien so could be a Gärner Hüte Wien label. I couldn't find any company that matches those initials. The "F" could be Fabrik (Factory) but no guess yet regarding the "U". I really like form of this one and also the ribbon with + bow design.
quite a few members here wear themBowlers are beautiful hats. Such a pity men don't wear them nowadays.
What I meant was they are very rare, probably even more than top hats which could be sometimes seen on some weddings or so. I am glad there are some people who still wear them. However, I don't remember seeing someone wearing a bowler it in my lifetime (other than as a part of costume).quite a few members here wear them
Thanks!U. F.= Utterly Fantastic.

He closed the restaurant that had all his movie memoralbilia in it & he sold his ranch property. I don't know anything about a secret restaurant. I'm sure his brother moved from the area.HJ- I believe it's only the casino now. Did Costner close his secret restaurant too? I always love the black hills, and get out there as often as I can. I plan on posting a pictorial in Fedoras Afield.

I wear my Derby/Bowlers often during felt season. Both in dress situations and just for kicks, casual. I love them, they don't seem to turn heads as much as you would think on our college campus. My inner circle of friends notice/comment on them, which is enough I guess. You're right. I have seen a bowler worn here only three to four times in 40 years that I can recall. Back in the 1970's there used to be a man at a local outdoor market who wore a bowler with a feather in it at his stall every Sunday. He wore it with casual corduroys, a denim shirt and waistcoat. I recently saw a young man with long hair and flamboyant dark clothing wear one in the city.
