Two questions, examples of both in a single photo I just ripped from the bay:

∙ Are these black and silver (metal?) initial markers generally associated with a certain time period?
∙ Does "Qualitá Exportation" have any usefulness in saying anything about the quality of the felt?

Hello again,

Today I am showing you my last find, a real wonder: Borsalino Antica Casa - Italian market - "Qualità Superiore" ca. 1935/36 (one of the earliest of the period 1936-1953 label), beautiful stringed sweatband and edged brim, unfortunately in a small size 3 1/2 French Punti (54cm) in the beautiful and rare color URANIO (corta - talpa for the hatband). Its conditions are like new.
It was sold from the hat shop of "Fratelli Camurati" in Mortara, a small town near Pavia, Lombardia, which is the same northern Italian region I come from. I wanted to share it with you since I think it can have some documental and historical value for all, even though I could not wear it even if my head was cut off for a half :D

Short answer: no and no. These little initial shields were in use for a very long time. They come in various forms, but this is the most common one. You don't seen them much after say the seventies. The Qualitá Exportazione tells us about as much as the other quality designations Borsalino used on their liners for instance: nothing.
This one is interesting though because both the colour of the felt m. norge (misto norge) and the colour of the ribbon (spinace) are ones we haven't seen before!

Very glad you decided to save it for posterity, Francesco. It's a gorgeous hat and a shame about the small size. The model name "ledasca" is one we haven't seen before. Love the Trionfo hat box as well.

Hello,

Today I am going to post my last find: early Borsalino "Marca Colombo", grey velour felt and "sugar paper" blue hatband, Size 5 French Punti. The brim is very narrow but the crown is very high anyway. Color code is "Nizza", model name "INDUSCA".
It was sold from a very important hat shop in Verona whose name was "Cappelleria Peternella di E. Mantellero", from which I also have a Borsalino Nutria hat box. (I hope that @Daniele Tanto has managed to be there almost once before its closing, which I don't know when happened but I am certain that the shop was still open in 1981).
Very proud of this find, very very interesting hat. Hope you will like it!

Great find, Francesco. Reminds me a lot of their later Marque Grand Luxe velour hats. Very cool that it still has the original box too. From Verona; maybe Daniele knows something about the retailer.

Francesco, first of all congratulations for the collection of the rebel Borsalino cousins and also for the "legalitarian" ones.
I remember very well the Mantellero-Peternella shop, it was in Via Mazzini in Verona, another shop that was a direct competitor as represented brands was "Meroni Sport" always in the homonymous street.
Another shop whose sign has survived was the Borsalino (Spaggiari was the last owner) shop in Piazza Erbe, which was open until a few years ago.

My Christmas Modern Borsalino seems to like being a Diamond these days. Since it's a Marengo I guess a Diamond in the Rough is more applicable, lol!

That's an Atatürk lapel pin I attached to the knot. First I removed the Gold logo using @deadlyhandsome directions. Then that Atatürk pin was just dying to become a part of it. Atatürk was a Fedora Man.

Beautiful hat with the beautiful Colombo liner... often concealed behind a paper protector. Here is another, also velour, made for USA market with color bordered label and separate size tag. Marked in the front "visone" (mink).

After all the fantastic additions to this list in the last days and weeks
I hardly dare to show a simple gray Homburg ;)

Maybe you remember the Borsalino stamp-dated Homburg from Max Eckard, Berlin,
which was too big for me at 7 punti (a salute to Daniele)? This one is its little brother
- at least so small that it fits me perfectly:

Borsalino "Gigiasgu" (never seen) in middle grey "Nizza"
for the German market: sold at Josef Hermann, München
felt matching brim binding + contrasting, frayed crown ribbon
size 6 Punti on the separate size stamp next to the label
brim 5,5 cm; ribbon 4,8 cm; crown 11,5 cm dent/14,5 cm open
