Hi everyone! I purchased this Borsalino homburg off of Etsy. Still waiting for it to arrive, but I thought I'd ask a couple of questions using the pics from the listing. My biggest question is anyone have any idea regarding when this homburg might be from? The seller listed it as being from the 30's, and it would be awesome if that was the case. Just thought I'd check see what other people thought. Also, the size tag says 6 1/2 but the seller said the circumference was 23"/58.5cm which would indicate somewhere in the 7 size range. I know there's a sizing system that's used in Italy and France and perhaps other places where a 6 1/2 is equivalent to an American 7 1/2. Is that possibly what's going on with this hat? Any information that can be provided would be great. Thanks!

Great purchase! That is a super cool hat.

Size 6 1/2 is probably the French size number, it equates to a 7 1/2 US.

Dating the hat probably depends on the reorder tag inside the sweat. I don’t remember the general dates given for the red size tag. Some of the other fellows who follow Borsalino can chime in or maybe there is an explanation on this thread.

Nice catch, but from the liner I don't believe it's from the 1930s. Take a photo of any labels under the sweat band and post those.

For what I read on the sweatband it was sold in Switzerland.
It is a 7 1/2 size US and a 60 centimeters for EU. Borsalino tagged it 6 1/2 because they use a French system of measure.
From the lining it is a Qualità Superiore probably made in the Sixties and it has no the reorder tag under the swatband, since it is an European Borsalino.
It is a classic lobbia in black, a nice hat

This Borsalino Cecosca arrived today. Says 5 1/2 on the inside of the sweat, but 5 on the label. It's a 5, so the hat stretcher is giving it a tweak.

The colour is apptly called noce (walnut).

It belonged to the grandfather of the lady whom I bought it from. His initiatials P.J. (Peter Jensen) can be seen in the sweat. The name of the hat shop it was sold in can be seen on the liner and sweat band IMG_20210408_160956.jpg IMG_20210408_160956.jpg . A shop in the main town of one of the smaller islands of Denmark, Falster.

She believed it was from the 1920s. I told her more like the mid to late 40s / early 50s.

Interesting double wind cord. Haven't seen one like it before.

A nice hand to the felt. I haven't weighed it yet, but quite dense.

Looking forward to wearing this one once it's tweaked. IMG_20210408_161202_1.jpg IMG_20210408_161249.jpg IMG_20210408_161129.jpg
