The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

What leads you to 1953? The type of sticker with the color, model name, and size on it?

The sticker with Borsalino logo running up the side as shown in your hat is, in general, earlier than the logo-less sticker, here from my pocket hat.

I have seen a number of O.P.S. Borsos (1951-1953) posted that show the newer label, Buler's recent 7 3/4 Alessandria is the only one I've seen with the older one. There must have been a period of transition which remains an unknown quantity... but that is what leads me to my estimate.

I would also say early 50s (same as Alan regarding the label) or maybe earlier although it is tough with Borsalinos. I have a better feel for Echter Borsalinos which are often date stamped.

Howdy! I love both your hats! I'm Jerry and new to FL. I am in search of my first hat and living here in Texas it gets hot! I am now sure whether to buy a fedora with only a few months until summer or a straw hat. I am Italian as well does that count? I have traced my family history all the way to the southern tip of Italy in the year 1415. Plus I am also a Freemason which is also a brotherhood.

Thank you so much!

Thanks very much! I am very happy with this hat. The form is older than its years - the crown is higher and less tapered than most of the 1950s Borsalinos that I have found. Will definitely not be going back in that little box.

Nice hat Rodkins. Any one know how many different colors of grey there are?
I keep waiting for someone to say that they have an "uncle Luigi" that worked at the Borso factory back in the day and advises them how to accurately date these old Borsalinos. But I think before long Alan is going to stupify all of us with the knowledge that he has mined as to the exact month or day that the label was pasted in to the hat!

Thank you very much Manfred!

There are a number of interesting older threads on Borsalino dating, by liner logo and by manufacturing label. Unfortunately, many of the links to images are broken. The photos are a valuable resource - I'd encourage folks to think about preserving the URL to their images when uploading.

The knowledge base here is impressive, thanks to RLK, Carouselvic and many other long time Lounge members who share their collections and experience with us.
