I'd like to second that.

Here's the modern Borso I got from Mike today (Thanks for the speedy shipping!). Finally, a brown hat I'll keep. Something about its "basicness" really appeals to me. 'Til death do us part.

Can you post a picture of this brown hat with a grey or black one, I'm considering a brown or dark grey. Thanks

Great post, Robert. And check this out from my personal archives of one of my visits to Italia! (unfortunately closed that day)

Is the modern "The Beaver" at Bencraft made better than the other current fur felts or is it just more expensive because its Beaver?
Since its implied that it is the top of the line, I'm wondering if there is more to it than just a special box. Kinda like an S Class vs an E Class so to speak.

It's 100% Beaver. I've seen it and handled it at Bencraft. The finish of that hat is amazing. Wish Borsalino made all their hats like it.

I have recently purchased two Borsalinos from Bencraft, an Alessandria and a Film, and can attest to the high quality of their modern productions. Of course they can't really be compared to the vintage Borsos, but, nevertheless they are very well-made modern production hats. The ones that are made specifically for Bencraft are of very high quality and I would trust that the "the Beaver" would be as well. Of course I have never handled one.

I recently bought a Verdi from Bencraft and looking to get 1-2 more, and am curious about the Beaver. I like the Taupe Verdi and imagine I would like the Beaver as well, just wondering if the construction is noticeably different. I prefer brims in the 2 3/4 to 3 inch size so that helps to narrow it down somewhat.

The Alessandria & the Film have the same 2 1/2 brim size don't they?

Did you happen to see both Black and Dark Grey Beavers? I think I would want the Dark Grey as I may wear it more.

How about the Diamante? I'm not sure about the long hair silk finish though.

I saw the Gray as I'm a bit obsessed with hats in this color. I also handled a brown one when I visited the factory in Alessandria. Very nice hats. Haven't seen the Diamante, no.

I'm beginning to like the grays more and more as they seem so versatile. Do you remember what color the band on the gray Beaver was?

The second try.
Today I wrote Borsalino a second Email. The first one was not answered.
I want to know how is the paper label to read. I think the second mail will not be answered.
That is not customer friendly, I think.

Maybe Steven (Besdor) from Bencraft could shed some light to your question. He's a memeber, you could PM him.

A couple of years ago, a hat store not far from here had some Borsalinos in stock and one of them looked a lot like a vintage Open Road, only it was a really rich, dark brown.

It was pretty pricey, though not bad when you consider what a modern OR costs and what a piece of junk you get ... in comparison, I mean.

Anyone have an idea of what that hat might have been.

It looked like the one you see Johnny Depp in sometimes.

(not that I'm rushin out to grab one tomorrow, but it was gone the last time I was in the store)
