I get out my own set of top secret tools and start to work on smoothing out the crown of the hat, as the Cattleman's crease has been there on this hat since the parting of the Red Sea.....I have my iron (after steaming the hat with the kettle) a "T" shirt to buffer between the iron and the felt of the hat, a hard plastic large bowl and one glass oven tempered measuring cup and one oven mitt....
I start by using the side of the bowl with the iron, to work the upper sides of the crown first and then placed the oven mitt on my hand on the inside of the hat to smooth out any "dimples" left over from the bowl.....next I use the glass measuring cup, notice how there is little taper to the glass itself, (see above pictures) and that is used more on the sides to keep the hat shaped as it should be to help get rid of any unwanted taper......
Next, I use the iron to flatten out the brim, as it had some curling on the sides from being stored in a box, or, from being hidden in the drawer many years ago at Nellie's Bordello! lol!
And here it is being modeled by me, and yes this was not as hard as I thought it would be, I have less than an hour total time into steaming, then using my secret tools and after then putting the crease and pinch into the sides, I steamed a bit to just help hold those in....not too bad a job for a hat "Tin Horn" !! lol!
