I wasn't sure where else to put this. While I've seen the crest, I've never seen a sweat with this wild pattern.

I'm glad you asked Lefty... inquiring minds think alike. From sweat stitching I was thinking a nice condition 1930's Stetson. But I've not seen that embossed sweatband before either.

Groovy Sweatband!
Strange pattern on this Select too.

Very thin and starting to come apart, looked great until I touched it.

It looks like the texture of the sweat may have been a selling point at one time.

Could be. There have been some ads posted that touted different leathers as a feature. I can't recall pigskin being one of them, though I don't doubt that it was used. Russian reindeer was the most exotic. I seem to remember something buler or rlk posted recently said that, at the time, Stetson's sweats were high quality roan (sheep) leather, but that the best Stetson hats had calf.

"Best" can be a pretty touchy subject. These days, kangaroo is sometimes described as the best. It's used on the AB Deluxe.

Stetson Supper Club Homburg

Mike posted these pics of the Supper Club before he sold the hat to me, but I had a question about this though. I know that Stetson used this "old time" script for a bit with different crests, but does anybody know when the transition took place from this Stetson script:

to this script:

Both of these hats have the "newer" re-order tag.

Its in the early-mid 40's but I don't know if we have had enough hats with precise dating to pin it down.

Thanks, Robert! I thought it may have been around that time, but wasn't sure if anybody had any definitive dates. It doesnt seem like that "old time" script was around for a very long time. Its interesting that on the Supper Club, the actual sweatband crest is very plain.

Well, I just looked at my 32 Stetsons to see about this leaf/stars rule on the logo. For the most part, I agree that the ones I have with a leaf in the logo are 50s era models. I have a few with a mix, too, but even those seem 50s-ish.

But naturally, like everything Stetson, no rule ever works. Here is a Royal De Luxe from either the 70s or even the 80s, with a liner having the leaf in the logo and a sweatband with stars in it.

So what does this mean? Who knows?

Stetson is such a pain in the ass.

I was thinking the DeLuxe came out around 1948.

So I bought this on Ebay and spent at least an hour gently sanding down mothing, trying Scout's spot remover on its many faint stains (with mixed results), steaming, brushing, and sponging. It still looks embattled, but way better than it did, believe it or not.

Anyway, after reading this thread and the other main Stetson dating thread, I place a guess: 1930's? Set me straight if I'm off, because I'll be selling it (it's a size 7), and I want to be as accurate as possible with my description. Thanks in advance for your input!

I took photos of all its problems, too, but here are the germane pictures:
