We called them "sandspurs", but I've also heard them called "sticker burrs" or "buffelgrass".

Yep !

And I haven’t heard those words in years ! :D

Last week, I was walking barefoot in the house & went outside for a moment.

And this post should go in the “Disturbing Realizations”...because
I can’t walk around barefoot outside like I did as a kid today, it’s uncomfortable ! :(

This IS a disturbing realization.. And I can totally relate... I used to play outside barefoot all the time... Now I feel like I'm going to step on glass or something weird.... I wonder why that happens when people grow up....

In my case, as time went on & the less I walked barefoot, my feet got tender. I don’t know how else
to describe it.
My first jobs required I wear a suit. My next career as a camera journalist, I wore boots & later
when I went to tennis, I wore tennis shoes or sneakers.
Doing this over a period, I am uncomfortable wearing my favorite wingtips & saddle shoes.
And when I have to wear a suit & tie....it is uncomfortable.

I was a shoe size 10 1/2 most of my life.
I’m 6’3"...
but now I’m a size 12 .

When I was a child I ran around barefoot all the time. But back then I didn't have 180+ lbs bearing down on my soles.

So true !

The grocery store:
In the past I would bend down & pick the item at the bottom of the shelf
without giving it a second thought.

Nowadays, I look to see if it’s closer to where I can reach it, or seriously consider
if I really need it that bad for me to bend down. :(

Luckily, or because of my cycling & tennis activity, I’m not over weight.
But nevertheless, it’s a challenge for a tall person to bend down and
come up easily.

Ha! I'm shy of 5'31/2, what they call here "shorties", so I will never have That problem... I hope.

I hope not. But there’s always this:

But, in the near future, you’ll need to take a driver’s test & also apply for license plates.

These things are getting ridiculously bigger each time & soon will also require a cop tp
patrol the traffic aisles.

Oh hell no... u know I live in Miami and those things are RARELY used by people who have 'needs'.... its all for overweight lazies and even people who dont need them at all....

In the rare instances i see elderly people use them, I understand.

Personally, I think you should need to show some sort of identification to use them.

And yes, they Are getting bigger... What a shame... ugh.

Always went barefoot at the beach and along the waterfront promenade, that is until the day some doggy doos squelched up between my toes. Not what I call funny, my wife, on the other hand, wrecked her make up.

So are the overweight lazies.

Something trivial that irks me is when people say "everythink" rather than "everything". I have a friend who does it all the time and no matter how many times I tell him to stop, he never does.

My first language was Spanish.
The teacher in elementary tried her darn best to make me pronounce the word “dog”.
Emphasizing the last part....og...it’s og...not uck !

My tongue insisted on saying , “duck”.

I rarely use Spanish now & hard as this may sound...in my case, the tongue adapted to the
language I use most.

Spanish is a hard language with respect to the tongue compared to English.

That’s why other languages like German for example if they speak English, there is still that
strong element of the tongue which is used to speaking German unless with
practice it is eliminated.
I find the southern drawl & also the New England way of speaking by
the females to be very sexy.
I’m no expert in this , just my opinion on why some people pronounce some words as such !

I think if I'm speaking to, or listening to somebody who perhaps doesn't speak English as a first language, I would let them off this particular annoyance. It's only me being a snob. ;)

My friend, however was born and raised in the south of England (and speaks no other language) and therefore has no excuse in my eyes. :p

I'm also terribly irked by how Americans remove the letter "u" from words like "humour" or "favourite".

But that's a different matter altogether.

Are you referring to spelling ?

Like “tyres” instead of tires ?

BTW:
I enjoy listening to a British accent.

Yep. It's so trivial and stupid but somehow it always manages to get my goat.

Edit: Thinking about it though, spelling mistakes or typos never seem to irritate me. I think it's only when a whole sentence or paragraph is written perfectly then thats when the American spelling jumps out. Crazy, huh. ;)
