Brooks Brothers website has one in burgundy with the dark quilted collar but it's about $1000. It's made out of genuine velvet, though, so it is definitely the real thing. If you are looking for fully-functional, that would do it.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable about the second-hand shops will chime in but I would think that you might be able to find a vintage or a modern used one for quite a bit less.

Happy hunting!

Anyone know a good solid place to obtain one?
Charvet makes the most exquisite smoking jackets that I have ever seen. If you're not up for a visit to their Paris store you may acquire one through the Charvet boutique at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan.

I'm willing to go $300 the most. And I'm looking for a lounge jacket. While the Jos Bank Jacket looks nice it's something you really wear to an event. When I think of a smoking jacket Im thinking Hugh Hefner.

check out Joseph A. Banks Clothiers, they have some striped smoking jackets on close out for $69.00. They are limited on sizes though. Here is the link.

Those are dinner jackets.

The Prof is looking for something closer to this

While Feraud pretty got the idea, I ended up finding this place

http://www.margita.com/smjabl.html

I emailed the co. and if the burgundy can come with black collar, sash and cuff then I've hit the pot.

Anyone dealt with this company before or perhaps knows of a better place to get something like this? For $250 Its hard to compete with.

Just chanced acriss that site myself recently - I'm considering the Casipan Blue. I would like a proper, old-school English smoking jacket eventually - but that's subject to price. I suppose because they have become such a specialist item nowadays, the only available options are the cheap and nasty fancy dress type, or the premium items which are superb but expensive. These seem a reasonable option to start with, and from what I see elsewhere, the blue is not a common option.

The ultimate for me are those at www.smoking-jackets.co.uk, but at USD600 odds, those are a fair bit out of the budget you've set at present!

Interesting, I had a "bath robe" pattern that I got from one of the Pattern books and took it to a local seamstress... She cut the bottom of the robe pattern off, and made me a nice red corduroy Jacket, with the Quilted lapels and turn back cuffs for $25. Now, that was 20 years ago :)

For a more casual, less tailored type of smoking jacket that would do very nicely indeed. :)
