Any chance we could get a side view of this one? I'm about to order a Fed IV, and I'm seriously considering this for the bash.

Thx

This is the only one i have on file. It looks like an arc slightly higher in the front than the back. It starts out as a center crease and keeps that look.

This is also a Fed III, which has a higher crown than the IV so you won't have to crease it as deeply.

Thanks, kaosharper1. HatsDirect said they should have moonstone Fed IV's in my size (59) by the end of the month. I think I'll go ahead and order one this week.

My first Fed IV bashed

Mine isn't anywhere near as stylish or accomplished as kaosharper1's fine bash, but here's my new Tawny Fawn Fed IV standard. Center dent (the hat seemed to want it that way...the c crown and diamonds I tried would have kept the shape, but it didn't look right on my head somehow). You can't tell the brim is flipped up slightly in the back, but it is. Still has an Indy vibe, I guess, even though it isn't intended to...perhaps I'll try that teardrop again. Or maybe the problem is that drop in the front brim...

What do you think of the tawny fawn? How dark is it? I'm thinking of one. Someone on FL said theirs turned out to be darker than they had expected.

That was actually me on another thread, Gilgamark. I find that the color is growing on me...in daylight, especially in sun, it's almost the gold/camel color I'd first imagined. In some darker light, especially indoors, it can look almost milk chocolate brown. And with a little steam, the brim was surprisingly easy to shape. So, all around, I guess I'm happy with it until I find a lighter brown/gold lid.

I have a tawny fawn Fed IV std. as well and really like it. I posted pics on the first page of this thread. My bash has a steeply raked profile like the Maltese Falcon, but the crown is domed instead of just punched in like Bogie's was.

It's a really pretty color and is sort of reminiscent of a camel hair coat. I want to get a navy blazer just to wear with this hat. It's a great hat to grab on the way out the door. It goes with 'most anything, looks elegant and yet not too formal, and is soft and comfortable.

Yes, CRH, I have a hard time keeping a hat straight on my head--there's always a side tilt, and occasionally a backwards lean to it. Glad you like the angles, too!

Maltese Falcon

Here's my just dried Moonstone Fed IV Deluxe. I went with a combination of kaosharper's modified Maltese Falcon bash with the height of the store-bought bash on the Akubra Stylemaster. The front is 4"; the back is 3 1/2". I put a tugboat effect on the sides; they rise to 4 1/2" at the back of the dents.

I went with the understated dents and tight pinch of the Maltese Falcon, which I like.

Overall, I'm please with this for my first bash. I was really surprised how easy it was to work the felt when wet.

I changed the heights and added the tugboat effect. Those are the only differences. I might have brought the front of the brim down a little more than yours. I like my brim fronts to be almost perpendicular to the ground.
