neither do I ... quite small in the grand scheme reallyAll the best. I think you'll really like the hat. Personally, I don't think of a Fed IV as in any way a big hat.

A couple of months after I made that post I finally gave my Dark Brown Fed IV a Diamond crease. I liked it so much that I re-creased my other two Feds as well:...I also have a Dark Brown Fed IV, but it has a simple Center Dent crease that's a little too "Indyesque" for this thread. One of these days I'll probably re-crease it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
+1 I resemble that remark...Early onset alzheimers.
Maybe it's a sign that you need to have more than one.I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I constantly find myself saying, "Oh, man, I've got to get one of those" - and then realizing I already have one. Is this a bad sign?
The Carbon Gray Fed was the first hat I ordered when I came back to hat wearing about 7 years ago. I'd been reading here and decided like you to take a chance on a hat from the other side of the world. It worked out great (though the hat looks a little lighter in color in these pics):Resurrecting an old thread as I posted originally in the wrong place (ask a question but couldn't work out how to move it). About to order as my first Akubra a carbon grey Fed IV. Despite reading up through the various threads and having decided to go for the Fed IV, vaguely unsure given all the comments on the proportions / big size, but figure I may as well order to find out! Quite keen on not having the Indy bash, hence this fortuitous and topical thread, albeit 8 years ago; Wish me luck...

With regards to the Fed IV being a "big" hat, compared to most fedoras from the 1940s and 50s I'd say it's dimensions and proportions are average. It might have a slightly taller crown, but that simply allows the wearer to crease it as high or low as he/she likes.
There is a difference between a C-Crown and Teardrop, but it's subtle and usually only noticeable when the hat is viewed from the top. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here are two that should help to show the difference...That's a great picture. I've been thinking about a diamond or C-crown (is that the same as a teardrop?), but for sure, the diamond looks very interesting. Is their a "how to" thread somewhere here or shall I just search on you tube?
Okay to resurrect a thread? Gave my moonstone fed 4 deluxe a Bogie style diamond bash and a slight brim trim and I think it came out okay!
Thank you!We love old threads coming back to life. I like how you have your Fed shaped.
I love your style, and the bash, very classic!Okay to resurrect a thread? Gave my moonstone fed 4 deluxe a Bogie style diamond bash and a slight brim trim and I think it came out okay!
I appreciate it! I was actually nervous to modify it but I think it reached a good 30’s look.I love your style, and the bash, very classic!
