However, if you have any especially interesting ones, you might get better prices selling those singly. Certain wedding and formal dresses can command surprisingly high bids, as can ladies western shirt patterns.

I second this. Formal dresses (especially 1930s ones) and sarong patterns go for a lot of money. I sold a 1950s sarong pattern for $90 on eBay once. To get a good idea of what kind of patterns sell well, surf the vintage pattern listings on Ebay. Interesting hat and purse patterns sell well too, especially 20s and 30s ones. There is a sort feature where you can view the auctions by which ones have the highest price, which ones are ending today, etc. You can get a good feel from what sells by looking at the auctions this way.

... grouping by size is a good way to go...

Actually I would say thats secondary. Most people I know who work with vintage patterns grade up/down anyway. Yes there is a comfort zone, but I have made garments from things 6 sizes too small to 4 sizes too large. I would like to see a lot of patterns grouped by wardrobe, perhaps a suit, dress, skirt, blouse and accessory pattern all in one lot, instead of all skirts or all dresses, etc.

I would want someting with variety. So I would list be decade /wardrobe /then size. There are also ways to group by pattern maker. But Id day group by decade first.

I have found this website that has a few bathing suit patterns similar to those on it

http://gloriousvintage.com/sewingpatternspg2_b.htm

I've been searching for such a pattern as well because I can't find a modern bikini I like.

I hit the motherload!!!!

Whilst antiquing today, I came across a not so vintage armoire, and for some reason decided to look in its drawers. Low and behold I found a stash of 50+ 30s Butterick patterns! I almost freaked. I asked how much they were, and the lady said $3 each! Squeeeee!!!

I looked through the ones that didnt seemed open and had their directions and got about 13. YES ME!!!

Here they is.

I dont know much about this eara of patterns, or why they were in green envelopes. I was also suprised at how many of these patterns had the frock AND the coat in the same package. Talk about a bargin!

Also, this maker I know nothing of. These were the only ones that were printed, and in english and french. They also have both curencies printed on the package.

Definitely a treasure!

Lady Day,
You really did get quite a bargain. $3 a piece for those is almost unheard of.

A bit of history on your patterns. The ones that say, "Delineator Style" are patterns that readers of the Delineator Magazine could purchase that were featured in their issues. (The Delineator was a woman's magazine dating back before 1900 that featured fiction, homemaking, recipe ideas, fashions of the time, culture, fine art and lots of advertising.) I have several issues of this magazine from the 1930s. Delineator magazine merged with Pictorial Review in May of 1937 (another similar type magazine) and became just the Pictorial Review.

1930s patterns are extremely collectible and a hot item on the Bay--even if they aren't in mint condition. So you really did hit the motherload!

I can't wait until I see you sporting some of these beautiful fashions.

Note to self: Always pull out drawers of furniture in antique stores to "seek the treasure"!

Thanks Bonnie on that history. How cool.

I couldnt believe she sold them that cheap either. There were so many in there, some opened and with parts missing. I just grabbed the best ones :)

I cant wait to get started on some clothes. #6390, and 4850 are tops on my list ;)
