Definitely. I love poorly listed items.

It wouldn't have affected the value though, but when I saw the Fryberger tag I had to have it because of the quality of a private purchase chocolate OD tunic I had that they made in '43. I've lost track of the number of shirts, ties, etc, that I sourced to resell, usually by order, and have often kicked myself for letting some things go. But when a theater or production house wanted complete garb, that included ties, etc. This is the first time I've deliberately bought myself any civilian period clothing, just for me. I'm selfish :p

Do you know if a British precursor unit would be our US equivalent of a standard combat unit, or would it be more specialized, like Special Forces or Recon? Any idea which unit it represents?

By precursor, I mean it is a unit that used to exist but has now been evolved into something else, it is a Military Police specialist investigative unit. Hence the Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe in the top left, cuffs and baton in the bottom left, the top right are the colours of the military police and the bottom is a broken sword.

Here's my latest find from Salvation Army for 53 cents. Unfortunately the flash obliterated the shades of light blue in the shields and accented the swirly background which is actually all navy blue and just woven into the fabric. What do they call it when they do that, a jacquard? The only tag on it says Murphy's Men's Apparel Moscow, Idaho. Was it common in those days to have the store name but not the maker name on ties? I've found that on some of my other ties as well.

I've found several ties locally that have an "Idaho Department Store" label. The store was located in downtown Twin Falls, Idaho. I think it was just the lower-end ties that only had the store name on them.

Well, just to make Widebrim happy, ghostfaces ended up being a Towncraft Deluxe. The check on to the bottom right is a John Wanamaker in its original Wanamaker box with the original Christmas card - no date, sadly. Another of the boxes is a "Merry Christmas" box. The square end one second from right, lower row, is a very early knit tie; probably teens, by the looks of it, but maybe early 20s. The rest, except for the birdie one, are cheap crap. Some maybe boys ties - very, very short.

A rare ebay buy. $25 for the lot. About $16 or so to ship to the UK.

Towncraft! There you go, Baron! I do like that birdie one, too.

I like the birds too. It's by 'Park Lane'. I had hoped that it was woven silk 30s number, but sadly it's early 50s printed rayon. Oh, well, i'll have to wait to add to my woven silk bird tie collection … I have yet another $15 eBay lot on the way which should arrive soon. The buyer thought 50s-60s. I disagree! The relative lack of stripes and checks (man, how many of those do I have already?) and the prevalence of lighter shades, decided me on buying this lot.

Very nice. I'm hooked on square-bottoms. I have dozens. I find that they have some of the most sophisticated patterns and designs of all neckwear.

I think you're right in using the word "sophisticated." The designs also tend to be minimalist, of course, but that goes hand-in-hand with the clothing trend of the time. Yeah, when I see a '50s square-bottom, I usually pick it up, unless it's knit.
