. . . this 1933 dated 3-piece sold for about a hundred bucks - and it's a bigger size too!

I almost bid on it, but the condition was horrible. The photos show many, many rips, holes, and at least two worn out linings. Normally I don't care too much since I'm on the *ahem* "bohemian" side of vintage collecting, but that one was kinda wrecked.

And another reminder why we have a no live auction posting rule. Someone got a decent deal. It could have been a college guy or someone on a limited budget. More power to them if they can find it on the cheap. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

True; maybe I overreacted. Well, if I had bid on it, it might have gotten too expensive, so I suppose it is best that I didn't.

But what if the seller is a college student on a limited budget. I have no real objection to the rule. I am just saying that for every good deal for a buyer, it is a bad deal for the seller, and my sympathies lie with neither. Actually, if you think about it, we could be keeping prices artificially low, by suppressing information. good for us, but not good for the American Economy or god old supply and demand economics.

Although we needn't worry too much. maybe the hat guys were bidding up hats, but I don't think there is much danger of flers bidding up suit prices too high. I dare say, most high prices do not come from our members.

The college student seller is far outnumbered by vintage specific sellers. If they are not making money then they will not sell at the mentioned prices. No sale is a bad deal for either party or neither would participate. No one is forcing either the buyer to buy or the seller to sell. It is just a supply and demand equation. Right now there is a large supply with little demand.
I have a bunch of stuff I could get rid of if I wanted to but the demand is too low so I just sit on it. [huh] The economy is not the way it is because we here at the Lounge don't allow live auctions to be posted.
Oh, and I don't appreciate you insinuating that our membership is cheap either.shakeshead [bad] :whip: Like grandfather always used to say: "A thing is worth only what you can get for it." Nothing has changed in fifty years.

That is unique and quite rare. i have never seen such a back treatment. Must be kind of a leisure or lounging suit. Looks very comfortable. I would buy that. they didn't seem to post the size.

My sales of mediocre crap seems to be picking up after the holidays.

A green suit in that size range is not likely to go for much more. [huh]

Fact is, I'm buying on eBay nearly everything that I eventually sell (resell?) on eBay. Buying low is more important for me than selling high. If we posted live auctions here, my chances of buying low would go down considerably ... but my prospects of selling high wouldn't go up much. Why? Because Fedora Loungers don't bid particularly high on vintage menswear ... but a few of 'em bid low, thus pushing up the final price. Not by much, but enough to make my product purchases less cost-effective for me.

FWIW, they hardly ever win --or even come very close to winning-- the suits that I sell. [huh]

Hardly ever is different than never.
You also have a greater following abroad who are willing to pay a premium for something different. [huh]

to a point. But if something is poorly listed, wrong category, for example, then it is not subject to supply and demand. This is the main point of marks desire to not hae a hidden auction publicized.

Of course, if photos are bad, or seller does not know what he has, then it is a matter of limited perception of value, which is a little different, but similar.

Both of these would be good reasons for loungers to help each other out by publicizing auctions. But like I said, i don't care.

But if marke posted or let you know that ther was a large suit posted in the wrong category, then the posting would be doing you a service by calling it to your attention. of course, then you wold have to compete with Doran and others.

in the end, I think the policy is fine, as it is uniform, and gives all buyers an equal chance to find that poorly listed gem.

Here is my newest suit. It is not vintage, its a brand new Jones New York collection $550 suit that I got online for a steal. Its 2 piece, double breasted navy with subtle pin stripes.
