Just found this pix of my Dad and thought it was sort of interesting that he was just wearing a t-shirt instead of a shirt with his suit!

You know, I've seen that look ALOT in old photos... the T-shirt and suit thing was done alot... I kind of like the look... it's a nice way to dress down a suit.

The best T's to sport are ringer T's... or a cable knit T-shirt from the 40's.

My 40s DB is actually my

1939 DB suit. With somewhat steady hand I removed about 1" of thread to reveal the hidden part of the union label.

This is as close of a shot as I could take. It looks like 1939 to me.

I don't know if I have the sewing skill to put the threads back although it doesn't appear that the label will come off. It's still firmly attached so I'll likely leave it be.

Ah yes, I remember that one! The $249.00 price tag on that green one that just sold is a drop in the bucket for an original Bench made H.S&M suit!

Wish it was me size says I, Arrrrrr!

That's the one I nabbed (the green one). :)

It's gorgeous, but tiny. 36 jacket and 29 pants.
As soon as I find a good tailor I'm having a duplicate made in my size.

"Bench Made" was the finest line of suits that Hart, Schaffner & Marx produced in the '30s and '40s. It followed the lines of English bespoke suits, and most of the work was done by hand. Hart, Schaffner & Marx dropped its "Bench Made" line in the 1950s.

Here is a 1930s "Bench Made" that I sold a while ago:

That's a gorgeous suit, Marc. Is the color really that rich?

Is there anything left of your collection or did you sell it all?

cheers,

RC

Hello,

I am a new member and this is my first post. I recently acquired a straw boater and I quite like the look of it with this blazer:

Yup, the color really is that rich. And the vest is pleated!

I've sold off nearly all of my suits, but I kept the best. Ask Wild Root and Matt Deckard about my ealy '30s, black gabardine, 3-piece single-breasted suit with peak lapels ...

Tiny it is! Well, please don't have them take that suit apart when you have them copy it! It would never bee the same again!
