A good friend of mine asked me if I wanted a couple of pairs of shoes that are languishing at the bottom of his wardrobe. He didn't want any payment for them, he's still more than grateful for the Aloha shirts that my missus made him, pro bono. Lucky for me we share the same shoe size.

When he said languishing I knew what he meant, I have ummed & ahhed over a pair of Monk shoes, do I like the buckle or don't I? I cannot make my mind up, so I haven't bought them yet, they are just too expensive to languish at the bottom of my wardrobe.

All I can say is wow. What a good friend. All the shoe are very nice, but I would have to agree with, Eric the monk straps are special.

Not vintage but appropriate for the 4th. My father was a B-17 tail gunner, my wife had these made for me a few years ago.

I couldn't get slip this ultimate chance! My first (natural) crepe-sole shoes!
Real crepe-sole shoes on sale, lowered down from 160 to 50 bucks in classic department store!!

No Wallabee-style, just simple summer shoes. :)

Reckless khaki.

Franco Gazzani from Bontoni was in town today and delivered to me the shoes shown below. Unfortunately the photo comes across as Black but in reality the shoes are a dark cap toe Blue Derby. Franco mentioned today that he is enlarging his factory in Italy so that they can produce shoes more rapidly than at present. Bontoni produces about 10 pair of shoes per day and demand is huge. For a custom pair of shoes it takes about 6 months to be contructed from scratch. I ordered 3 more pair of shoes and they should come in about the time of the holidays. If you want to look at their shoes they do have an Instragram page

Met an old friend at this year's Twinwood festival. Colin Johnson, an artiste in footwear, he cost me a shekel or two. The burgundy & cream pair now sport cream laces rather than the black one shown in the picture. You can see the green and cream pair in the Hawaiian shirts and fedoras thread. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/hawaiian-shirts-and-fedoras.36948/page-119#post-2581516

Your new shoes will pair up well with the outfits you showcase sir. Congrats.

Apologies in advance for continuing the "modern shoe" theme, but I wanted to share my new shoes. I had ordered a new pair of Alden gunboats months ago and they were finally delivered.

A new pair of Alden longwings in cordovan leather #8 color. I had ordered them specifically to have "commando soles." This sole works grand for me in my Minnesota weather. The shoes can be worn all year.

Many folks on this thread have Aldens and appreciate the long vamp and "Alden-ish" toe.

The horween leather, horse butt, I have come to appreciate. This particular color, #8, is a classic Alden color.

I look forward to wearing these shoes more and more.

Best this morning, Eric -

What a handsome pair of shoes, real paragons of the style. I don't think I've ever seen a nicer pair.

Thanks folks for the likes.

B; Thanks. These brogues will not see use in a bog, as the name implies, but they are classic designs. My family and I lost my father last year and stuck in my mind are the memories of my father wearing his Alden and Florsheim "gunboats." They epitomize my father and his preferences and daily routines. These brogans are just like the memory of a favorite pair of his. My mother and I spoke last week about how each Sunday evening was my dad's shoe care time. This was true even after he retired from his University teaching duties.

Thanks sir. The horween leather longwings, IMO, are truly kings of the gunboats.

Now that I am retired I don't wear my dress shoes all that much and damn I miss my shoe care time. Often I will do it during a baseball or football game. It is a ritual with great therapeutic value to me.

No need for apologies, new or old that is style, they look so classic too. You are a man of good taste Eric.
These shoes are also brand new, although you would be for given for thinking differently. They are hand made from a vintage design, seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Wow, very nice ! What kind of soles ?

"Longhorn Brand" - "Oil resistant". I'm really surprised they've lasted all these years. Noticeable wear is the smoothing down of the rough surface of the rubber under the foot pad. The rubber grips the road well too, never a slip when putting a foot down at a stop. I also had these boots made with a walking heel, as opposed to a tall stacked heel like most engineer boots have, which I've appreciated much over the years.

Thanks for the info. Those sound like some very impressive soles. I'll have to see if my Cobler can get those on my next re-sole.
