True, or I could buy the Crockett & Jones Polo pair on eBay right now and have them dyed brown ... but I'm counting my pennies, alas.

There are actually some bespoke shoemakers in Asia who make a decent Goodyear welted shoe in the Allen Edmonds price range. But I know your problem from experience.....exacting specifications combined with a shallow pocket.

Remove the kilties. I loathe them as well. You can also remove the spikes.

A kind Lounger has informed me that, about 15 years ago, Kenneth Cole made a shoe that's similar to the Crockett & Jones Polo one. Now I've got to find a 9D pair in brown. eBay?

I would switch out the soles in the second one. Looks like an oxford hiking boot.

Those will need to spend a month in pecards leather conditioner then have the Achilles tendon area reinforced inside with a leather patch right round the area maybe up to the lacing.
