Ok than, I have a question. You and Mr. Scotrace have the interior flap hanging slightly off kilter (look at the bottom of your coat - it should be even). Do you have the option to button the interior panel inside the coat?

I'm not trying to be picky - I just wanted you to be aware of this, appearance-wise. (ok, maybe I am being picky).

Betty, most (but not all) of the 1900s-1950s men's double-breasted overcoats I've seen do not have, and probably never had, an inside button. On my DB overcoats without inside buttons, I've sewn on my own.

Marc is right, there are no inside buttons. My overcoat is able to be worn with either right-over-left or left-over-right. At first I thought it might be a woman's overcoat (because of this ability to switch as well as the nipped waist) but the style is too masculine to be a female coat.

But Jovan, you don't need an inside button in order to fasten a DB jacket (or overcoat) both ways. When it comes to doing that, the inside button doesn't make a difference one way or another.

Gotta love those WW2 overcoats. Heavy and warm. Some stylish gents in that photo.

ALL of the english 30/40s ones i've seen do have an internal button.

I believe the overcoat I am wearing in the picture posted by Mr Rover is a Kuppenheimer. It is labelled 8/24/59. Very roomy and comfortable to wear over a suit.
