Michael, your Hart Schaffner Marx looks incredible. I love the birdseye weave. One of the reasons I gave up on thrifting was I never found nice overcoats like this. I hope you know how lucky you are!

Yes, that is a nice one, though it has a bit of wear/mothing on the lower hem area. And I know I'm lucky here. Personally I think the Kladwell is my overcoat find of the year. I passed on a similar one in browns and reds and blues to think about it and it was bought out from under me. I really like the large fleck Donegals. They are not common around here. It has been a good year for coats though and it is a tough call.

Michael, of all the coats you've posted, this is the one I'd keep (if you intend to thin out the closet a little).

I've got too many coats too, including a BB polo coat which I've never worn. Oh well. I try not to think about things like having too much of something one likes.
I have developed a coat addiction. When questioned by my wife I always have others here on the Lounge to refer to in order to deflect my wife's criticism......"You should see the collection that Michael A has....makes mine look puny!"

Addiction isn't good, unless you have a spare room to store them all in. Sounds like you scored some nice car coats. You should post some photos of them here in this thread.

I was just wondering how the Schneider's turned out. Had a chance to wear it?

And why not? For anything from 4 to 8 months of the year, what you wear on the outside is what others will see first. And a "proper" (long) overcoat or raincoat is a fitting outer layer for all but the most casual of outfits.

Yes, it fits perfectly and is my "go to" winter coat now. Had a weeks holiday in Seattle over Christmas and wore it the entire week. Received two compliments on it from strangers on the street. It has the removable liner which helps extend the seasonal wear. With the liner in it is a monster coat and needs freezing weather but with it removed it is much lighter and can be a 6 month coat up here in the Pacific NW.

I agree. They're not only warm but really stylish as well. I'm glad it worked out for you.

My camera wasn't cooperating today so I don't have a good close up of the cloth

The maker I haven't heard of and a cursory search didn't turn up much.

Made in France of imported fabric, 100% Wool. It has a broken button so I may end up changing them all.

Good fit on that last one, I like the hard herringbone wool. I have a coat made from a very similar cloth and it's tough although not too warm.

I also like your black jacket with red shirt, blue tie, and grey pants. It's a nice look and not something one sees these days.

Thanks Dr D. I'm really hoping this is my last coat of the year. Ha ha. I don't think I had anything in a brown with orange, so I might find it useful.

Yes, I like the way the black jacket outfit came together. Up close it has a faint grey/blue overcheck in the shirt and the pants have fine red and blue overcheck to sort of tie it all together. Or so it seemed to me.

Then this showed up in the last chance aisle for about the price of a cup of coffee, the kind you make at home. A bit of moth shaving in spots, but real leather buttons.

Never heard of this brand, will have to see if there is any info out there. Dated in ink on the store label to 12-25-1984. Xmas present?

Have a good one,
Michael

Just picked this up yesterday at a antique shop in Astoria for $25.The Hilton Co. Alpaca (?) Overcoat w/ 1936-1942 style union tag. It's sewn upside down so can't see the year to make an exact call. This thing is Heavy!!!

No maker on this one just Made in England:

Swwweeeeeet. And a size I can wear too. Ha ha. That would be a find I couldn't resist. Congratulations on that beauty. The Union Tag would argue that it is made in the USA. Perhaps the cloth was woven in England?
