At least three of my Vietnam uniforms are from veterans who have since passed on. But in actuality 25-30 years ago you could go to an army navy store and find tons of Vietnam uniforms for $15-20 now they're starting to become as pricey as WWII militaria. The 1964 air force shirt I posted yesterday I picked up at a surplus store and the man said that they don't turn up in his shop very often.

Vietnam Veteran Grouping.

1) OG-107 dated 1967 named to a SGT Bartlett with 173rd Airborne Brigade combat patch and 82nd Airborne Division SSI.

2) Class A uniform from same veteran later on in his career (circa 1987) with 173rd Airborne Brigade combat patch, Training & Doctrine Command (TRADOC) SSI, German Bundeswehr jump wings, and Fort Jackson DUIs. It appears that the veteran was an instructor at the Army's Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic School at Fort Jackson, SC.

Note: The CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) on the Class A is not original to the uniform and is a restoration.

Sgt Bartlett's career waould be interesting to research. If I have my uniform interpretation correct, it looks like according to his sleeve stripes he had at least 1 year in Vietnam, and at least 24 years of service. Yet, his one and only decoration is an Army Achievement Medal.

Those old manuals were truly a work of art. Every thing laid out so well that even a boy from the big city, who had never worked on an engine a day in his life, could figure out a B-17!

I also have several volumes of the B-24D manual and, you're right, they are quite a tribute to the illustrator's art.

What makes the B-17 field service manual particularly rare is that they were intended as a quick reference guide for the civilian tech reps whose job was to advise and train the maintenance personnel. Towards the latter part of the war many of the mechanics didn't have the luxury of attending a Stateside training school as they were often rushed overseas directly from boot camp to receive on the job training in situ.

RAF Type B helmet with MKIII Goggles

And the same helmet with my newly landed MKII Goggles...as they were called.

Like the new goggles Søren! The Mark IIs were basically an evolution of the WWI era Triplex googles used by the RFC/RNAS/RAF.

Nice collection you've got going on there.
