Ladies, what beautiful locks you all have. This thread is such good tonic to the stress of pre-christmas craziness! i havent logged on in an age, I just love seeing all your wonderful styles.

Im contemplating home hair dying over blonde highlights to save a few bob, a foolish though maybe, I'll post a before and after if I take the plunge! well done on the marvellous styles, such inspiration :eusa_clap

Betty, if you do go through with it, be sure to pay close attention to the color of hair dye you use. Make certain it's got either golden or red tones to it, as another color may very well turn your blonde highlights to green! Trust me, it's horrifying when you expect to see a lovely soft brown in the mirror and instead your hair has turned positively army green. And that wasn't my fault, I was at a beauty shop!! Luckily, they fixed it for free, but still...ghastly.

Here are four (yes, 4!) pictures of today's hairdo. Two extremely light ones that at least show the hair, and two that show the correct color of my hair (and skin, haha), but show less detail because they are dark. That's what you get when you only have a webcam and no real camera.. Anyway:

(Please let me know if these are too big!)

It was my first set with foam rollers (set dry with motions setting/wrap foaming lotion, I slept with them in -covered with a net and a silk scarf- and left them in for about 10 hours in total, then bombarded my hair with hairspray after brushing). I'm really happy, I hope the curls stay! Usually my hair is so heavy and full that curls disappear within a few hours, at least when I use a hot curling iron, and pincurls just do not work for some reason. I got them right once, when my hair was about 5 inches shorter, but never after that!

ETA: Oh and Fleur, I also bought a set of hot sticks after your video tutorial lol I can't wait to try them!

I have the same camera issue and your web cam takes much better pictures than mine or maybe you're just better able to adjust the lighting around you.

There are just so many things I like about your look. Your hair, hair color, same style of tops that I like, and your earring(s) look so cute! I like your short full bangs or that you manage to make them look short. I doubt I could pull that look off.

Lillemor, my bangs are short! They have been cut just above my eyebrows, and rollers don't fit, so I just swipe a curling iron through to lightly curl them. My natural hair is quite straight, with waves at the bottom. But thanks so much for all the compliments!

Thanks so much for the advice helysoune, I may relent and get it done in the salon, i'm not sure if i have the balls to do it myself, we'll see. i have a friend who got great results, from a home dye so I must pick her brain about it how best to go about it. The things us gals do!!!

Thanks Ruby Red! I didn't do pin curls but used perm rods.

My hair has grown very long again, it's shorter at the front but nearly waist length at the back (needs a cut) so pin curls are out of the question. It's bad enough to take an hour or more to put it all on perm rods on which I have to slip afterwards!

On this particular occasion I wanted to spare me the sleepless night and rolled the hair in the morning, but alas after 6 hours when I took the rods out it was still pretty damp...As a result this set only lasted me that evening, as opposed to the good part of a week. It doesn't pay off to be lazy I guess.

Anneloes your hair is gorgeous, the colour and style! I haven't tried sponge rollers yet but will now I've seen your results! I'm looking forward to seeing the results with your Hot Sticks - good luck!

took the plunge

no pic, but...

as many know from seeing my pics over the last several months- I've been growing my perm out to have longer hair for better doing vintage styles. I had a fresh perm late Feb and joined FL in early March. The upper and middle sections of the new perm was done too tightly, and I have regretted it ever since (that hairstylist is "no longer with us"). I had been told the only way to rid myself of the perm completely was to have it cut out- eek! That would mean VERY short hair, which I do not wish to have!

Lately, I've been really tired of how the frizzy tight perm looks around my face (the shorter sections that once were bangs are by now near my jawline), so I'd recently started doing a pony tail and a thin headband and bobby pinning the stay bits up.

AND I still have LOTS of formerly broken off hair that had been starting to grow back. Around my hairline there is much hair that is like only 2-3" long! Gimme a year, and I'll have lots of hair-again!

Today I finally did it. I went to the old fashioned barber that does our son's and my husband's vintage haircuts. I had him trim the back of my hair about 1/1/2-2 inches, and bottom of the tight permed hair around my face trimmed about 1 inch. I was kinda afraid of how short it would look in the front, but its okay.

My sister told me about some stuff to try on my hair. Its Garnier Fructis Style curl shaping spray gel. Just spray on damp hair, scrunch and go! It pumps up the prettier bigger curls at the back of my hair at the bottom, and does a bit of perking up what's left of the front tighter part.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow taken of my new shorter hairdo, when I'm dressed up for the CA Pops Orchestra's Christmas concert.

Anneloes, I forgot to ask what size foam rollers you used and did you do a particular set or just random? I still love your hair, I wish mine would do what yours has done!

Oh and how long did your curls stay in?!

Toni: I used pink foam rollers, I think they are about 3/4 of an inch? Or maybe an inch.. I don't have them on hand now and I'm kind of bad at guessing, haha, sorry! I put them in quite randomly, I separated my hair in 3 layers (horizontally) and went around my head for each layer. Does that make sense? I rolled them all horizontally and downwards, towards my head. I used 18.

They stayed in pretty well! I didn't brush them as much for fear of ruining them completely, knowing how badly my hair holds a curl. Unfortunately we had a lot of snow here today, and I had to walk through it for about an hour back and forth, and got soaked (even with my head covered and most of my hair under my coat). So now the curls are gone lol I still had a pretty nice slight curl this morning after sleeping with a scarf. The curls staying a day and a half or so was exceptional enough for my hair, usually nothing sticks more than a couple of hours.

Hello Carey! How funny, you and I both got serious haircuts at almost exactly the same time. Must be something in the air! I just grabbed the scissors and whacked at it. There's a pic in the "need new hairstyle" thread, but not set. Next time I have makeup on I will take pictures with it set and post before and after, etc.
