Okay so here is the most recent aggravation I haven't finished yet.
Wouldn't you know I got everything finished up to the zipper and the darned thing doesn't fit across the bust.
Everywhere else is perfect. Even the piping turned out perfect.
Soooooooooooooooo now I'm not sure what to do.
Adding a panel could be done in the armpit area. No one would see.
BUT I'd have to take most of the dress completly apart and I wanna cry at the thought.

I feel your pain. The same thing has happened to me more than I care to think about. Your dress came out beautifully. DO you have any extra fabric? Maybe you could recut one of the pieces. Taking it apart is a pain but it will be worth it when you get to wear it.

Yes I have extra because this has happened before.
Sad thing is my carpenter father always says measure twice cut once. And I did. But alas I came up short. Or shall I say narrow.
Luckily I have plenty of time before summer.

Thats what I had to do when I completely redid the front of my 30s suit dress. I had to rip off the ENTIRE front. No other way.

Its not as bad as you think it will be. Ive learned not to look at sewing as such a permanent state anymore. It can always be changed, altered or repurposed. Do you want to wear the dress more than you want to take it apart? If so, then go for it!

I hate having to take anything apart at a skirt or slacks waist band to fix and re-attach. That's the one that still gets to me after my days of alteration and repair. I did so many hems and darts, but didn't get tired of those.

That piping etc does look perfect, RealSwellgal. I can see why you don't want to re-do anything. You could always sell it, it's adorable, you'd make a decent profit!

Well I was thinking about it last night and that might be what I end up doing.

And yes I want to wear it more. I know once I get it figured out it will be worth it.
I think once I get better with my skills I'll start seeing the glass half full.

I hope my first pieces look even a quarter that good. And I'm sure you'll figure out a workable fix. It's the cutest dress!

RSG -- GRRRRR! Even though your dress looks EXCELLENT, I do feel your pain! I'm working on a Kay Francis "Hollywood" pattern right now and it doesn't fit me AT ALL! My own fault though -- it was a size 20 and figured I'd sew in an inch instead of half an inch because I've done that before with size 20s and they came out perfectly. NOT THIS ONE! It must run small. I was angry -- it is coming out so beautifully perfect, too. And the fabric is just lovely. Ahhh well. I'm going to make it again properly so it fits. And probably sell the ill-fitting one.

I think it's taffetta. My mom helped me pick it out at Joanns.
There are times I do miss my hair that long it was about 5 inches from being at my knees.
