August von Mackensen, fieldmarshal in WWI for Germany. The hat belongs to the regiment of the Leibhusaren or rather the Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regiment Nr. 17.

Famous vigilante, messenger for the Gilmer Salisbury Stageline, hired gun for the Wells Fargo Co, US Marshal, & his last occupation was as a notorious hangman. He preferred to be called by his middle initial. X became a legend.

This pic was handed down many yrs ago from the granddaughter of Tom Sparks (#2). Sparks was a 1st cousin to Cole (#4) & Bob (#3) Younger. Also pictured are brothers Frank (#1) & Jesse (#5) James, taken at the Tipton, MO train depot ~1875. They may have been scouting for the robbery of the Missouri Pacific Railroad at Rocky Cut near Otterville on July 7, 1876. It's 14 mi from Tipton to Otterville. The robbery netted $15K. The train robbery at Rocky Cut was just 2 months to the day before the robbery at Northfield, MN that would send Cole, Jim & Bob Younger to prison where Bob would die & Cole & Jim would serve 25 yrs. Sparks has never been implicated as being a gang member. Provenance might be questionable except it came from Sparks granddaughter.

Jerry Johnson, well known prospector & trapper in Western Montana. When age & work took its toll he become an owner of a hot springs & mineral bath.

My maternal great great grandfather Henry Wells Hoxsie 1862-1939. Described by my grandfather as a "rotten son of bitch" The State of Rhode Island took his Charlestwon RI farm, that had been in the family since the late 1600s, in the mid-1930s by eminent domain to build the CCC/WPA constructed Burlingame State Park. He fought them for years until he was removed from his land.

I manage all of the historic records for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation including all of the Highway Condemnation Plats. The files contain information on the owners and pictures of their land, business's or houses taken for highway projects including I95. About a dozen times a year I receive requests looking for images of the house they grew up in, or their grandparents house they remember visiting as a child. These are always tough.
The farm of Henry Wells Hoxsie had been passed down from father to son from 1690 to 1937. The worst part is, they State never destroyed the house and sold it and it is still standing on a small lot surrounded the State Park, much of which was my families farm. The State paid $375 for it.

The "Father" of Kyle Field, Texas A&M University Agriculture Professor E.J. Kyle. Kyle wanted to secure and develop an athletic field to promote the school's athletics. Texas A&M was unwilling to provide funds, so Kyle fenced off a section of the southwest corner of campus that had been assigned to him for agricultural use. Using $650 of his own money, he purchased a covered grandstand from the Bryan fairgrounds and built wooden bleachers to raise the seating capacity to 500 people. Kyle retired in 1944 so this phono was probably taken sometime during the 1930's.

Yes, particularly when we drive by the house and the park. It's about 40 minutes from where I live.
