I'm not sure. It's from Wayne's arrival for the 1953 world premiere of "Hondo" in El Paso, TX. The fellows on the right side of the pic are from the El Paso county Sheriff's Posse.

Well, since neither Henry Hull nor Walter Huston was in that film with Wayne and Bond, I suspect the fellow to Duke's left might be an El Paso local as well.

May have to custom order this style of hat, as nobody seems to make them anymore.
Telescope crown, no pinch, medium to stingy brim, pleated hat band.
Seems like a style that would dress down well too.
Can't miss when you take style cues from Ol Blue Eyes, right?

Also, I know this hat is straw, but I'll bet it would rock in felt too.

those type hats are in abundance on the vintage market

I know the Chairman liked Cavanagh ... but all hat makers made this style ... I've owned probably 20 or 30 of them in the past ... I think I have one currently ... a 50s era Knox

truly no need to order one because they pop up all the time ... you could own a real one from this era for probably under $100
