It seems to me that this is the friendliest forum I've ever been on. All the other ones I get shafted and people on them tend to be gigantic smart-asses. What makes this place so different I wonder? [huh]

The Lounge...

Well sir, the Fedora Lounge holds a high standard of excellence... we keep our standards up by constantly moderating the pages here, quality control is a high priority.

As I have collected vintage and antiques, I have come across some of the nicest people... in general, the kinds of people that collect or have a passion in classic design or collectables, are classy people! We all find one thing in common with others from around the world, people latch on to that and we'd do just about anything to help each other out. We're all a rare breed of humans; we enjoy the old fashioned things in life and in these days that's very rare! Today most people are rude and looking out for one person, and that's #1 and helping others and being caring isn't a thing that is thought of cool or meaningful.

This is a sanctuary for the type of people who enjoy hats or vintage life style... we all have one thing in common... we love the Fedora Lounge! It is the best community I've found and I'm so happy to be here... I have met some amazing people and have always had 100% positive experiences. Each Member of this place I meet is a genuine class act all the way!

When you have as many nice people in one place, it's no wonder this place is so great!

People here have prespective

We know this isnt a place to rant. This is a place for tasteful conversation from people from all over the world, and the respect for that is paramount.

Also I dont think people here are afraid to be corrected (with taste mind you) on something. The Lounge is full of swave, worldly, polite, and genuinely interested and helpful folks.

I agree, this is the friendliest, classiest and most helpful place I've ever come across - virtual or otherwise. All my experiences with people here at the Lounge have been positive. Even those who hold different views, or are of a different political persuasion make the effort to be civilised and get along.

I think that the type of people that come to the Lounge are a cut above the ordinary. However, the bartenders also do a very good job of keeping the riff-raff out, and showing rowdy types to the door when they've had one too many.

I have to agree, this place is simply amazing. I haven't posted much, but I've been lurking since the EZ Board days. I think it is first and foremost the quality of the members, but the staff's first-class moderation of the joint really sets the tone.

We may disagree without being disagreeable and debate without acrimony. Corrections and criticisms are offered as guidance, and if you attend a Fedora Lounge event, you will make friends for life. The tone is set from the top: the gentleman at the helm, MK, and the wonderful bartenders.

I completely concur with Hemingway. I've only been here two months, and I feel right at home, and the Loungers I've met in real life are outstanding human beings.

I had to chuckle when MK asked me how long I'd been on the Lounge. "About a year, right?" No, but in some ways it feels like I've been here a lot longer than I have.

I too have been a lurker for a very long time and I´ve come to the conclusion that people here tend to not only dress vintage, but also "live vintage" in a way (I´m not exactly sure whether that sounds sort of offensive to English speaking people, if so, I´m sorry); that means they comply with a moral code that´s not quite the one of most people nowadays, but rather with one that demands kindness, open-mindedness and most importantly politeness.

Regards, A.

I am also pleased by the way that people interact here. I got as heated as I've ever been in this forum in the 4x4 thread, but did my best to speak politely and with clear thoughts. I've observed that others do this consistently. It speaks well for the behavior and intelligence of those who frequent the Lounge.

The lounge is truly unique. there are the few trouble makers that like to 'stir things up' but they generally don't last too long. MK, wonderful guy, hope you meet him ;) does not allow what goes on in other forums and chat rooms. Respect is #1 and I think we all do that very well, he's got some of the greatest men bartending this place, and I think with this set up in place, it starts attracting certain people who want to get away from the rubbish and trash that is seen everywhere else.
Also, I love the fact that there are get-togethers so that we can meet in person, it brings more of a feel of family and closer friendships

I have to add that meeting fellow Fedora Loungers in person is a great experience. Any anxiety or trepidation one would feel before meeting total stranges is practically nonexistant, as you already know the people thanks to this forum.

It is totally different than I expected, there was no awkward "ice breaking" - it seemed that everyone hit it off straight away.

My wife and I had such a great time back in January here in London with our fellow Loungers that we can't wait to trek to LA in November.

People tend to be a bit older on this board, for what that's worth. The message boards full of 20-somethings tend to be full of bad attitudes and X-rated talk.

It’s amazing, truly amazing! When I first joined the Fedora Lounge, I had already met MK; Matt Deckard invited him out to a popular swing dance venue. After meeting him, I had no reason not to join! I’ve seen this place really grow! It’s amazing how many new faces we have and how quickly they fit right in here and start to contribute.

I’ve met many Loungers at the QM last year and the year before… always a pleasure and there really wasn’t any anxiety to speak of! We all know each other to a point from here and when there’s a place to meet up, it’s like meeting old friends! We all talk about the same things as we do here… it’s really something! This is the only site ( with the exception of my Plymouth web group) that strangers can meet and feel like friends so fast!

Yes, we all have different beliefs, tastes, likes and dislikes… but, one thing we hold in common, whether it be the 1920’s-1960’s or just wearing hats, The Fedora Lounge is a home a way from home.

=WR=

PS. Well, I wouldn’t say “Older” I’d say mature ;)
We have a large number of 30 years and younger... the younger group (My self included) are people who are a rare and special breed.

Fair enough...the horrible 20-something boards are what sent us youngsters running here I guess!

I agree that this is one special place! People are incredibly decent, pleasant and courteous here and that truly makes it an enjoyable place to visit and participate!
I would also like to add that there are some very knowledgeable people here as well, and most of them are very willing to educate the rest of us! I have learned so much in such a short time.
I consider myself to be quite fortunate to have found such a place! It truly is a pleasure!

Well, I guess they're good for something... they send the good ones here!;)
The only other site I'm connected to is "Myspace" and I only ad people who I know or that have common interests.... keeps the "Check me out on my web cam" type of people away.

While I mostly troll and envy some of your fine hat and suit collections, I must echo all your thoughts and say that the Lounge is the most civilized, eloquent and generally decent forum I've ever visited - And I've spent a great deal of time on dozens! It is a difficult task creating an online community that doesn't slowly erode away as more and more childish, egomaniacs infiltrate the threads, but with the quality moderation taking place here, the good has overcome!

From what I've seen the time I've been here, definitely like everyone else's said, the moderation makes the Lounge. Keeps this from becoming just "one big display case for the most amazing array of personality disorders" like all the net newsgroups. Cheers to the bartenders!
:cheers1:

Now someone with enough time and money on their hands just needs to start up a nationwide brick-and-mortar Fedora Lounge franchise...
