RC did a collab w/ Mushmans this past year of the Hercules jacket in Buffalo leather that they called "California Brown".

Interestingly, RC had a collab w/ Mushman's for the first anniversary edition of the Hercules jacket in "California Brown" horsehide back in 2012 or 2013 which IMO was the nicest brown they've ever used for this jacket.

I'm disappointed this was the only image Barnstormer had for their tobacco brown preorder lol! Was a little too difficult for me to imagine it. I think the 2012-2013 pattern is quite different, at least in terms of sizing, they're about a size bigger compared to the current models.

44 is gonna be hard to find. Most of them only stock up to 42. I've seen the Hercules being stocked in size 44 at Barnstormer before but that black jacket is now gone.
This season they're doing the Houndstooth lining which is new.
I've got a used Ponyboy coming in size 42. I will compare it to the Herc in sizing when it arrives. Rainbow Country 30s fit is quite slim, chest ease is only about plus 2" from tag size, tops. But shoulders are wide enough and there is enough room in the hem too. Their 40s fit is one size larger.
You just picked the two best models in their line up, the Herc and the Ponyboy.
If only the Yahoo Auctions seller hadn't straight up lied about the sizing for my 2014-2015 Herc, I would have a nice one in the old fit, which may be slightly better for my weight. But unfortunately it was about 3 inches bigger than listed in shoulders, chest, and 3 inches shorter than listed in sleeve length. Probably a custom order...

I hope their new fit in either Ponyboy and Herc will work for me, I think Ponyboy only has 44 by special order since it's completely gone from Mushmans product page. I was also looking at that same Herc at Barnstormer and hoping it would stay there until I could try it on, it was there few a few months, but that ship has sailed now. I wonder if the reservations for the new black model with the houndstooth lining will be stocked in store in a size 44 or maybe only by reservation as well...

I remember that one in the classifieds. It was a rare bird with the measurements. Current size 42 is 22” P2P with 19” shoulders, and I will guess 44 is 23” P2P with 19.5” shoulders. Both 42/44 will have 25.5” back length and sleeves as the original.
I’ll keep an eye out for you for RC jackets in size 44. I’m looking at this brand all the time, but I haven’t seen a RC jacket on the resale market in 44. Fingers crossed.

Yes, very rare in size 44. It was the only Hercules in 44 that I have seen in almost a year of searching on the resale market, previously I saw an A-2 or similar with insignia on Yahoo Auctions, and I think an Indy jacket or similar? Other than that, doesn't turn up much. I did recent get interested in a Freewheelers Sunset in 44, I saw on Yahoo Auctions and Mercari (I think from the same seller you got your deerskin La Brea from?) but it was a little too much for me and now it's gone.

I do think I will be able to fit the current Hercules, but it will be snug, I would love to try it on if Barnstormer gets their new custom orders in store for a size 44.

Thank you kindly for the help!

Posting for posterity’s sake, a Rainbow Country Hercules (was it the Single Rider back then?) that I got in 2017. Was too small and was listed as black but showed up dark brown (a recurring theme apparently).

Zipper was broken so I had it replaced by Mushmans. Leather was soft and a bit spongy. Had itchy wool lining in the body and the sleeves. Sold it not long after since it was too small and not the color I was going for then:

the waist look very boxy from picture.
The way it fits is very straight cut, but it's cut to be slim throughout. On my model it was the same width from armpit to bottom hem, but can be cinched in with the waist adjusters. It still gives the illusion of broad shoulder and modest v-shape from the back though, maybe due to the way shoulder are shaped and the back panel design.

I kind of see this style must be geared more towards raw denim community, apart from the fading potential, straight body denim jacket or chore coat are more inclined into their realm, perhaps with wear it will break in into personal drape in the same spirit wearing straight leg raw jeans.

Not sure it's so dedicated to raw denim community, I feel like that's more reserved to undyed veg tan leathers, like the Mister Freedom, Simmons Bilt or Iron Heart Four Speed Leathers ones. Because pretty much all leahter jackets will break in and drape differently from new, so I personally wouldn't make the connection to appealing towards raw denim community.

This is a Hercules model reproduction from 1930's sample, with a modified pattern to fit their Japanese market. It's just a classic pattern reproduced by many companies like Aero, Good Wear, Himel Bros, etc.

Yeah, the typical raw denimhead, especially beginner, would want something that tapers to the waist and isn’t short and boxy. Look at all the denim jackets with extra length for guys who don’t tuck their shirts in.

Fun fact: NOS Talon can zip into Repro Hookless
Which makes me think what else can zip into what?

Brown one is the Herc and the black one is the RC Hwman copy.

I was wrong before. the rc hwman is bigger and a bit different. Herc has pointier collar and longer curved body. The highwayman is a bit shorter and wider. I remember the RC fit like my Aero Hooch in the same tag size. Just the highwayman not the Herc. I hope nothing shady is going on in Americaya since they also carry a bunch of Aero premier fits jackets.

Watch the hem width on the Japanese fits. I think most Western brands 30s fit is drop 4” from chest to hem. The Japanese 30s fit is 2” drop from chest to hem. And hem circumference often equal to tag size or bigger.

NOS Talon zips into repro Hookless… still trying to wrap my head around this one

That’s interesting that there’s a finishing place in Tokyo; that would explain some of the chatter about Freewheelers finishing their Shinki leather differently since AFAIK they don’t do anything in house. There was debate about brands finishing Shinki horsehide and why Shinki would sell unfinished hides. If anything brands might be specifying their requirements to the finishing factory.

Interesting, the famous Japanese heritage company I assume is Real McCoys? Everything seems to branch out from them, Freewheelers, Toys McCoys, Buzz Rickson and probably a lot more.
The old Real McCoy (Toys McCoy) was a true pioneer. He started as an illustrator, painting A2 jackets and selling them through mail orders. And somehow grew the industry into what it is today.
And new small shops keeps on sprouting out like Canyon Leathers. Much like Aero was the origina training ground for what later became of SB and now Field Leathers, Japan is more or less the same but with more guys in the middle.

TMY is the finishing house name.
sort of like Shinki and Ogawa relationship
TMY has nothing to do with FW though, they’re just the customer that gets to put their brand on the product.

The point of the Recall retail store post was for our EU members you get to try it on in person and not have to take gambles over the internet like me with no stores carrying RC jackets here.

The only store that carries them in Australia only orders the A-2 and G-1 models. Pretty meh on both those models honestly, but the 44 A-2 fit me well, probably better now I've lost a bit of weight. Hope I get the chance to try on a Hercules in Japan. Also would like a Ponyboy, but don't think any carries that in stock. Even in their domestic market, not many places have a full run to try on lol
