My first hat of 2023. Its been a very dry two months hat-wise.

Thankfully, this very new Stetson Stratoliner turned up. Seller says he bought it in 2018 at Cable Car Clothiers in San Francisco.

Wallnut colour. The brim is 6.5cm (2.5 inches) and crown height 10cm (4 inches)

The felt is quite dense, probably too much so for a Stratoliner.

The brim binding nicely matches the thin ribbon and bow.

Very soft sweatband, which makes it a very comfortable hat to wear.

All in all though, I'm very satisfied with this one, especially as it fits nicely. It will do well until a vintage Strat turns up at a reasonable price.

size 6 Punti on the separate size stamp next to the label
brim 5,5 cm; ribbon 4,8 cm; crown 11,5 cm dent/14,5 cm open

Optimo Melusine long hair beaver.

This first pic is just after I pushed open the crown & had not yet ironed it back to round. And I was trying to get the proper camera exposure for the melusine sheen.

The melusine long hair beaver is blacker than black indoors & the only way to photograph the sheen is outdoors in natural sunlight. The sheen sort of turns a dark silver & the long beaver hair becomes more obvious. Reminds me of a seal in & out of the water.

Still showing a few drips of water here & there. I may play more with the crease in the coming days.

NOS 3X Resistol OR type.
I bought this hat because I don’t have enough Resistols (and likely never will) its as new condition, its original crease style, but mostly because in the seller’s eBay pics it looked dove gray.
Which, it kinda looks a bit gray even in some pics I’ve taken, but in daylight it’s the typical early 60s Silverbelly color.
Compared to my usual OR spendings, I shelled out waaay too much on this hat at $224. To make up for the overage I’ll have to sell one of the “too many Stetson silverbelly ORs” taking up diminishing wall space. Y’all know what I mean. Still need to post these, which I could only photograph yesterday.

Sools Fifth Avenue in black. No label under the sweatband, so uncleat who the maker was. Size tag suggests Fléchet, but it was used by other makers as well. The kind of sturdy and dense felt which has me thinking it might be nutria or beaver. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 6,7cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Lovely hand to the felt.

Barbisio Daino fedora. Size 59 with the overwelt brim at 5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. A later production Barbisio. Very soft to the touch with hardly any stiffener. Could've used some more generous proportions.

If I were to design a hat for myself and this was suggested, the only change I would make (other than size) would be to remove the taper from the crown so that I'd have fewer difficulties fitting it onto my apparently enormous head. Nice hat!

P. & C. Habig Wien "Special", P. & C. Habig's "Special Qualität, Reine Handarbeit", 58 cm, possibly 1930s late 1920s and reworked later. There is no paper label but the Liner is stitched in so if reworked it was possibly in the 1950s. The Felt has a Natural finish but a soft hand. The Sweatband, Liner and Band are of very high quality.

Open Crown

I have a NOS condition P. & C. Habig Wien "Special", P. & C. Habig's "Special Qualität, Reine Handarbeit Berlin Friedrichstr. 82a" that has very similar components and from about the same time period. This is definitely one of my finest hats.
