Mallory Coast to Coast - Dark Grey Brown
4 3/4 - 3 7/8 rakish crown
1 5/8 pewter grosgrain ribbon
2 3/8 brim with 3/8 bound edge

Thanks go out to @DaveProc for the tip on this Mallory Coast to Coast and a fairly dark grey brown felt. Having seen Jim’s @Frunobulax C2C I knew I wouldn’t go wrong with this buy. This I believe would be later 50s considering the card stock size tag and slightly shorter brim at 2 3/8. The dark taupe felt is offset ever so slightly with a pewter grosgrain ribbon and brim binding. The crown still sports what appears to be its factory tear drop and rakish crease. Mallory are among my favorites and I do have a few with similar (Whippet-ish) styling but none with the C2C designation or this coloring so this will fit in nicely.

Black Stratoliner Premier. I wasn't prepared for the black dye on my fingers after I steamed and shaped it. Godzilla in the background doesn't seem to care one way or the other.

Nice addition. I can see where that might be a bit startling. I guess that does tend to happen with newer felts/powder dyes.
It's not a hat to wear in the rain or snow right away. Maybe later it will. Have you heard if the powder/dye stops coming off?

I have heard of it on occasion. I have not experienced it myself as I mostly only handle vintage hats. I have however been surprised by the large plume of dust released from an old hat while brushing. And once or twice found my hands covered in black silt afterwards :D

Felt is a dust magnet...........(and keeper/holder)....ESPECIALLY Hat Felt (grabs pet hair too). The original "Sham Wow" (grabs beer too, but does NOT like to give it back)!!!!;)

Thanks. I don't have much experience with vintage hats. I do like the felt on this black Stratoliner. It's thick and soft for a new hat.

Brown Portis “Escort” Royal quality homburg with Swansback Finish. Size 7 US with a wonderfully supple thin and wide leather sweatband with a rolled edge. I’ve always loved their “Typically American” slogan.

Very nice, Brent. The Portis hats I have are always well finished and trimmed.
