Dobbs panama. Well made hat though not a real high weave count but nice and consistent. Woven edge finish. 2 3/4”x4 1/2” at the dip. 5/8” 6 ply ribbon. Great sweat at nearly 2”.

For mixed felts they usually sing the praises of Borsalino, but we forget that the mountain hatters, Barbisio and Cappellificio Cervo, have interpreted the theme in a splendid manner

Super Bantam Cervo size 60 or 7 1/2 US

Felt is a melange of green and some red, called "Loden" in the production workshop in Sagliano Micca - Biella a few years ago

The heather felt finish is typical of the mixed with a slight hair, sometimes bristly. The consistency is quite firm

The measurements are as follows: 6 cm of brim with a superb overwelted finish, the crown is 11 cm. and the tape at 4 cm.

The Bantam brand is also used by Cervo for the construction of Italian Alpine troops hat



The hat was sold in the depths of southern Italy, in Taranto former cappelleria Pisapia of which I have a large series of special "Bantam" felts produced by Cappelificio Cervo

Looks like the dress/parade hat that was worn by certain U.S. border patrol agents. The wider brim & higher dents suggests that it is an older model as seen in the 'Border Patrol Museum' below.

Today's hats are the more conventional campaign hat with narrower brim & lower crown but they still have the characteristic black leather hat band with the horse shoe buckle.

New-to-me Art Fawcett. I lint-rollered, brushed, and steamed it, and it looks like it left Art's shop today.
I think this is half rabbit, but I am not a Vintage Silhouettes expert.
I really like the shape and the color, and it has a nice hand.
It is Navy blue.

Not a new hat per se, but a new look and band type. It certainly gives the hat a different look. Leather is raw and darkens over time.

Second hat with a "special" felt

Borsalino Qualità Superiore size 6 or 59 cm. or 7 3/8

One of the strangest Borsalino in my collection, usually these are felts that the Cappellificio Cervo produced

Felt is a dark green with straw-colored inserts, but it is not marked "misto" as some might suppose

The color is "Brughiera" and the ribbon "Ombù". I have to be honest the first time I see a similar denomination of the ribbon and I think another time I saw a hat with this kind of green (Brughiera)

It was sold in Torino, around forty years ago

The felt is very consistent and despite appearances it firmly maintains the shape

The dimensions are as follows: brim at 5.5 over welted cm. the open crown is at 13 cm. and the ribbon is 3 cm.

Rehfus & Cie. "Zephyr" "Extra Extra Qualität", French Point 5 1/2. The condition is excellent so probably seldom worn. It came with an original shop Hat Case and Hat Brush. I am thinking post WWII but still uses Rehfus & Cie. and the 1950s Soft Felts used Rehfus Hutfabrikaten. Also the factory was heavily damaged + looted after WWII and didn't go back into production until 1951.
