finally found one on Goodwill and only $12. It may be more of a military one since it’s olive drab, but I haven’t found any info on a Stetson 3X like this. Seems most are wool and have vent holes.

Looks like the dress/parade hat that was worn by certain U.S. border patrol agents. The wider brim & higher dents suggests that it is an older model as seen in the 'Border Patrol Museum' below.

Today's hats are the more conventional campaign hat with narrower brim & lower crown but they still have the characteristic black leather hat band with the horse shoe buckle.

Just got my first Borsalino in the mail from France last night. They sent it flattened out in an envelope, can you believe it ? After a lot of work last night and drying over night it looks pretty good today after brushing again and bashing.

Felt is amazing though, and sweat is pretty decent.

More on the Borsalino Brotherhood.....

What were they thinking?

I specifically asked this seller to ship in a box big enough so that the brim would not be bent as the curl would be hard to redo. Then they charged a $10 handling fee.

Crazy. The last 3 I have received have been like that. If course I am buying ones that need some TLC on the cheap, so I guess I can’t complain. They’ve all turned out OK after some work. Stetson 7XCB and Portis. Don’t know how I forgot to take before pics of the Borsalino.

While it makes me cringe every time I see this or experience it with hats I ordered myself, it doesn't worry me that much. I've found that hats are amazingly resilient to abuse and with some steaming spring right back to life.

Haven't posted this one before. Mayser Spezial homburg in grey. Size 58 with the brim at about 6cm and the crown a substantial 12cm at the center dent. An older one it seems, judging by the liner and sweatband. Late forties or early fifties I think. Sold by Albert Wentzel of Lünen, Germany. From what I gather the shop lasted from 1855 for about a hundred years.

Another arrival this week. One of my favourite brands. T&W Lees of Stockport, England. Fedora in a size 59 (7 1/4 English, 7 3/8 American), with the bound brim at 5,7cm and the crown 10cm at the center dent. Colour is called Ruzeno, which was probably nicked from an Italian manufacturer. A few loose threads and a steaming away from being as good as new.

I rarely go for under 6.5cm brim width but these recent arrivals, all just under 6cm (around 5.8cm) are growing on me.

Some more of their own category. European this time ;)

Crown at 11.5cm at dent. 6cm raw brim and 4.5cm midnite blue ribbon finished with shark gills. Felt is very soft and from the weight of it I assume some fur and wool mixture. Great condition.

Next Panizza stingy size 56. Not sure how this style is called ?

Crown 11cm at dent and brim at 4.5cm after curl. Felt is very soft and finish is peachy, kind of shorter nap suede. Color is cogniac.

Unfortunately these two don't fit me, one is too roomy and the other too small :(

4 super hats, Panos. Very classical looking Fedoras. I particularly like the Knox with its iconic 40s look. Nice buys.

Dobbs panama. Well made hat though not a real high weave count but nice and consistent. Woven edge finish. 2 3/4”x4 1/2” at the dip. 5/8” 6 ply ribbon. Great sweat at nearly 2”.

Might not be a high weave count Greg, but it sure looks good. I particularly like the ribbon treatment. Looks a great straw colour too in that wonderful natural sunlight.

New-to-me Art Fawcett. I lint-rollered, brushed, and steamed it, and it looks like it left Art's shop today.
I think this is half rabbit, but I am not a Vintage Silhouettes expert.
I really like the shape and the color, and it has a nice hand.
It is Navy blue.
