Remember, there are variables in the vintage Stetson's. Think OR's. I have one with a 2 5/8" brim and I think one that Fruno has is a shade over 3. Fruno's may be a 3X as well. Not sure. Not all of the same models were created equally, even within the same era.
The one that's 3 1/4" is a 25 OR. My 3X is 2 7/8". Both have 5 1/2" OC.

They can be all over the place.

Brim is just shy of 3 including the binding, and the crown is app 51/2.

These hats are typically labeled with the felt quality but no listed model, some blocked on a 51 or a 56. HJ has a No. 1 and maybe another.
Robie, here's my 1940's - 1950's No.1 Quality 3x6 blocked on a #52 that BB is referring to. Bound edge brim & 3-cord ribbon. So much like an Open Road to come.

It had a diamond or teardrop crease when I got it but went back original with very little effort.

That hat is something special. The 6” crown does a lot to set it apart. The colors and shape are very nice too. You really know how to get the best out of western hats.

Thank you sir for posting that. It is a beautiful hat, and looks brand new! The color on my monitor looks a light brown, and if that is correct, I love it. I will keep my eyes open for one of those, or perhaps even have one made to replicate it. Hope you don't mind, but I have saved one of the pics, for future reference.
Thanks again buddy

An interesting addition.....a dark grey velour wide brim (2 1/2") with a sewn underwelt.......Stetson liner with yellow welt....roan sweat that says "genuine velour" only....no other markings. Attached fabric size tag, back indicates made in Czechoslovakia (well they DO still make a nice velour). Model name "Tibet". Perhaps made under license from Stetson in the 80's or 90's or newer? Or perhaps a replacement liner (though the way it is glued in, it does not appear to be a replacement).
Anyway......here it is. I really like it!

Here is a modern Knox from 2014. Levine hats from St Louis licensed the name from HatCo and commissioned the "Dr. Knox" hat. Even produced little copper Knox hat pins! I am leaving it on (one of the rare instances) as I really liked it:rolleyes:.
This in the color "Congnac" (a kind of light/medium copper brown) with 2" wide ribbon, open crown and 2 5/8" raw edge brim. Wonderful liner in red satin and white tip! Felt has a suede like finish, I like this one too........

The block & flange are important. My favorites seem to be the #51 & #52. You develop an eye for the right block even when that information is missing from the tag. Or before someone trims the brim & blocks it on something close. As always the look depends on the man but the flange seems to work on brims from 2-5/8" thru 3-1/4". Here's a new 3-1/4x6 with the proper block & flange IMO:

I don't know what Stetson would have called the color back then but today it seems to match well with Whiskey. Here's a comparison done a while back with Tonio's hat in whiskey:

Thanks again, for the information. I like to shape hat brims, mostly dependent on the style hat. However, I think these seem to be better looking, or more appropriate, with flat or flatter brims. Perhaps the width makes it so. In any event, they are nice looking, and once again, I love that color on that hat.
